Since there are many of us who attended junior college/community college/undergraduate universities with a few (or many) lousy grades, i am curious as to what your scores were from these institutions and whether or not it came back to haunt you when you applied to medical school. Did any scores significantly drag down your amcas gpa?

Wrong forum.

I'm sorry you feel that I posted in the wrong forum, however my question was specifically aimed for medical students. I don't care about the pre-med's experience, because they don't apply IMO.

Thanks for moving my post, now I have no relevant answers 🙁

Many medical students browse the Pre-Med forums. Fear not, help is on the way (soon).

not to mention many pre meds just finished their application cycles and have been accepted so they will be able to help as well

The forums are arranged by topic, not by who posts there. This is a preallo topic.

That said your initial question is kind of vague. Yes people have been accepted to medical school with some significantly bad grades on their records. They drag your GPA down and they will be something you may have to compensate for or explain on your application. That said the hurdle is surmountable.

I made two Cs in math classes early in my undergrad career thanks to poor time management and general laziness. Since they were both 4 hours classes they weighed my GPA down a bit. I addressed it in my PS. No interviewer ever brought it up, and my application process has been a success.

I know people who have failed/had to retake classes and received acceptances. It's possible to get in with a few slip ups, but as was said previously you have to make up for it somewhere. It's better just to buckle down and not have to worry about it.

I have two poor grades which I think is affecting my application this cycle.

Just for poops and chuckles I tallied my amcas: 14 C's, 2 D's, and 14 W's. Followed by 3 years of 3.9 work (I was on the 2 degree/6 year plan). I would definitely not recommend that long and painful route but it has worked for me so far: 5 interview invites, and 1 acceptance despite applying a touch late.

And an aside: exactly how does the pre-med experience not apply to you? Sorry you have to slum it with the wannabes but you'll probably get pretty good advice from some of these pre-meds. Just don't take mine.

I apologize if I have offended you, or anyone else for that matter as it was not my intention! That said--I am amazed at how high you've picked up your GPA after so many C's. (I took a peak at your MDapps:laugh:)
