So, my Sony Clie bit the dust after 3 years of heavy use...I figured, hey, why not try the windows based PC. I did some research and ended up getting an HP IPAQ 3715 with a camera, WiFi, and bluetooth. I spent $400 for the thing, plus had to buy new epocrates and 5min EM consult programs for the windows based system. So, I spent over $500 total to switch over. Then I had to buy a bunch of small programs (medcalc, etc) that are freeware for the palm based, but NOT for windows.

I used the thing for a couple of months and was not too thrilled with it. Not as straight forward as the Palm...Well, the LCD screen cracked after 3 months (no trauma that I can recall, but the thing is pretty flimsy, so it probably got torqued somehow). I sent it off to HP and they wanted $250 to repair it! Geez! So I said forget it. They sent it back and charged me $85 eval fee! The customer service reps were VERY condescending on the phone. I vowed to never buy another HP product again.

Well, I learned my lesson. I went back to the Palm based handheld (Palm Tungsten E) and I LOVE it! It is sturdy, and I just love how much easier it is to use than the windows based. Plus there is SO mush freeware out there...
I highly discourage switching to Windows based systems and I will NEVER buy another HP device again! I have an HP printer and when the ink runs out, I am throwing it in the garbage. I will never spend another cent with HP based on how there customer service reps treated me.

Sorry about the long post, but I just HAD to vent....

I've got a Tungsten E. Throw a 512 memory stick in there, and you've got a little piece of heaven. Welcome to the dark side. 😉

I just got another copy of the 2005 Tarascon Pharmacopeia.

This thing rocks! It's light, easy to master, and fits nicely in my pocket.

I think I laid down 10 minutes of my time and had to eat a ham and swiss sandwich with no mayo for it. That and listen to some flouroquinolone rep. wearing a tight shirt and heels tell me her propaganda.

We don't get drug reps coming to our hospital. We are forbidden from having them fund any lunches, educational activities, or give us freebies.

If all you carry is a Tarascon Pharmacopeia, then a PDA probably isn't for you. I'm a geek, so I have a lot of stuff. PEPID EM, ePocrates Essentials, Washington Manual (great for the ICU's), MedCalc, Sanford Guide, and AvantGo (for us to log our procedures into eResidency). Not to mention I get my email, surf the web, etc. from my PDA. I can even access AOL Instant Messenger... all from the Bluetooth connection to my cell phone, courtesy Cingular Wireless.

Yes, I am a geek... and proud of it.

Hey man, write HP a letter. My dad's been an HP engineer for 25 years, and things have really gone downhill since they hired that Carly chick as CEO. She's gone now, but too late to save the "HP Way" that so many employees stuck around for. I for one can vouch for the fact that their tech support is absolutely atrocious. What's more, I had to send my laptop in for warranty and they lost my computer! Thankfully, my dad knew who's ear to climb inside and b!tch to, so I got a new computer out of the deal...but the point is: HP is now a far cry from what they were just a few short years ago, and I think that it might help if some "former" customers told 'em just how much they suck.

Hey Spyder,

I bought a factory-refurbished HP computer and the thing locked up about 6-7 times a day while using it. Turns out it probably had a defective motherboard and they wouldn't give me a refund or replace the board without charging me an arm and a leg. Moral of the lesson: Never buy HP products, ever.

Since the topic's up, I just found my old Sony Clié two days ago and had thrown out the charger + USB cable assuming it was stolen. Anyone know a major chain store that carries these accessories? The Sony Store of all places didn't have them.

You guys are making me worry.

Used to have a Dell.

Now have an HP.

Had it for about a year.

No problems yet.

I'm dreading ever having to call tech support.

Carly Fiorina ruined what was possibly the best tech company to work for. I refuse to ever buy another piece of HP equipment. They also killed the calculator division during her tenure, and they made the greatest calculators in the world.

I had the 615? one with color display. I think I still have the usb and charging stuff laying around...If you think it will work, PM me with your address and I will send the stuff to you, assuming I can find it or the wifey didn't toss it in the trash.......
