I am currently shadowing a D.O. in Idaho and we starting chatting yesterday about the Idaho State University getting a Medical School. He then told me that Kirksville approached Idaho State with funding support to allow the school to be a D.O. School rather than a Allopathic School. From what is sounds like, most Idahoans would rather have a D.O. school because that D.O. have a great base in Idaho and are well respected.

Even though I don't really ever see this happening, I think it would be AWESOME!

There are TONS of qualified premeds in the utah/idaho region and only one medical school (The University of Utah). I'd like to see an Osteopathic school open up in either Utah or Idaho.

The bill is supposed to go through state congress this year to see if we are going to have a med school at all, so we should see if that happens before wondering if it will be Osteopathic vs Allopathic.

Also, University of Washington is another med school that gives instate preference to Idaho folk, so not just The U.

Another ****ing Osteopathic School?!?!?!

Yes, we should be worrying about another school that will be here in 7 years. I'm pretty sure most of us will be out of med school by this time, let alone worrying about "the match".

On another note slim is correct. Idaho residents are fubared as far as med school is concerned. 26 people from the state get in state preference for schools, 8 to University of Utah, and 18 to University of Washington. The rest of us are considered for OOS throughout the U.S. Montana and Wyoming legislatures were smart partnering with the WICHE process, in Idaho we get farmers that enjoy playing congress and where 26 students 20 years ago may have been adequate it isn't today.

Listening to the D.O. I have been shadowing and a few PT fellows, it sounds like the ball is already rolling in Idaho's favor. Idaho is sick of depending on the U of Utah and UW.

Idaho is also the largest state without a Med School. There are alot of things in favor of getting a Med School in Idaho, I just hope it happens

I always find it confusingly amusing when people who haven't even started medical school yet get all up in arms about new schools opening up. As if it's a personal slight or something.

A DO school associated with a major university would be very positive for the profession.

I'm not going to say that this is 100% or even 90% but, my uncle practices in Davis County and I recently spoke with him about students from KCOM and AZCOM that do their rotation in Utah. He said that Utah is even considering their options with adding a DO school. It has something to do with money and legislature. But again, this may have been rumors that he heard. So I wouldn't write it in stone just yet.

I guess our definitions of major universities are different.

Well maybe not major, more then LMU and certainly better then a free standing institution.
