Hi all,

I have interviewed at two different state schools thus far, both of which I'm considered in-state. One of the interviews was 5 weeks ago, another was 3 weeks ago. My wife has been offered a new job in our current city, which happens to be the same city where the university is located that I interviewed at 3 weeks ago. My wife needs to make a decision about the new job in the next week. I am wondering if anyone has a thought on the appropriateness of me contacting the admissions department and asking if a decision has been made, and if not, when will one be made regarding my admission status.

Thoughts? I dont want to be obnoxious, acting like I deserve special attention. At the same time, if I get into this school, my wife would love to take this new job. If we will be moving to another city she will not take the job.

Thanks everyone in advance!

She may have more flexibility than you do. Can't she explain the situation to her potential employer? I get the impression that there is not a whole lot of flexibility in the med school admission process. Your application will get to the committee when it gets there. Also, they could just put you on the waitlist (crossing my fingers you get a flat out acceptance!) which would just leave you in limbo anyway.

If I were her, I would take the job. Maybe she will have to quit earlier than she thought, but if you move won't she have to quit her current job anyway? If this job provides a larger income or a better experience for her, she might as well take it.

I would tell her to take the job. My guess is that you won't budge an admissions committee on making their decision. Also, if your wife is taking a career position, they are pretty strict on the time they give you to make a decision. Although it would not be ideal, she an always leave her new job and her brief employment can be explained easily.
