So with 1 month to go & feeling a little uneasy today, I dabbled in taking my first NBME. Who knows why, but I chose NBME 4 and got a 580 (240). Are the NBMEs really a good indicator or is it possible/probable/likely to get a good score by whim?

I guess I just feel so uneasy, so unprepared right now that I'm suprised by that. If I could guarentee that score, I'd take the exam tomorrow & get this hell over with.

I had a crappy study day, not where I want to be, find myself torn between trying to go over review books vs. just settle down & memorize FA. I start feeling like, if this is what I do when I'm no where near close to memorizing FA, why not just settle down, memorize that mofo & see what could happen??? Anyways... sorry for the rant... end of a long day, but I'm thankful at least it ended on a good note cuz otherwise today blew....

Of course its possible...anything is possible. But what is the likelihood that the that NBME form just happened to have lots of stuff you had studied? How did you feel when you took the test? Did you feel like you guessed properly on lots of them?

I'd say be happy that your studying is paying off, study some more and take another NBME or USMLE World self assessment. If you break 240 again and thats all you want then move your date up and enjoy some extra vacay!

i had the same experience with the same NBME (4). i scored 258 on it. but i wasn't convinced, and i took two more NBMEs (1, 2) and did 11 points worse on each (247, 247), despite actually doing more extensive revision. That really discouraged me, and I was glad that I hadn't pushed my exam day up. I ended up scoring 265 on the real deal (7 points higher than my score in NBME 4).

So i would recommend more focused revision and not pushing your exam day until you have taken all the available NBMEs and performed consistently within your target score.

Guys I have a question that keeps coming up indirectly. I took the NBME 1 and got a 236, this was 5 weeks ago and i want to take another. Which should I take. Should i just march straight through 1 throu 6. My goal is 250. I really dont want to take an exam and go down.
