Post-Acceptance Grades

Back to the topic...

OP, here's a specific example:

UVA's acceptance letter comes with a list of contingencies for matriculation, one of those being grades:

If you receive a C in a class, a written statement needs to be sent to the school explaining why.

If you receive a D in a class, your file goes under review again.

So straight B's should suffice! Finish strong with a solid 3.0!
Just kidding, do your best because it's gotten you this far. That mentality should work for another year.

Have some pride in yourself and finish strong. I like having Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa on my resume. I started college strong and I finished college strong - why allow yourself to do second rate work just because you got accepted. It reminds me of the good looking woman who starts turning into a fat slob as soon as the marriage ceremony is over. Have some self respect. It is pathetic that the OP even has to ask this question.

Funny... this reminds me of the toned and fit guy who stops going to the gym and gets to work on his beer belly as soon as the marriage ceremony is over... I guess it's all perspective?

Excellent and commendable. You will finish your undergrad career strong, unlike the various slackers who have posted on this thread!

I disagree. Don't break anything falling off that high horse

I agree. that shows you the kind of high brow person we are conversing with. Furthermore, Mr. Agreeable stays in shape, for the Miss Agreeables (not saying that Mr. Agreeable takes collective action towards those deemed Miss Agreeable, he was just adding a rather agreeable twist to an old meat-head, toolbox saying)

At some schools, the senior year isn't easy (mine is moderate so I feel I am a worthy commentator). Just do your best, most people who sacrificed to become doctors think too highly of themselves to become total slackers anyway. To each, his own. Except the man mentioned above (assuming the one I agreed with is female) who is probably a member of the Pewterschmit family (or fancies himself that way)

while others have said it more eloquently, I shall say it in the way someone with a SDN username such as schoolsucks would say it:

Go **** yourself.

Hey guys, thanks for the internet love. I would have responded sooner but I was busy polishing my gold Phi Beta Kappa key.

Hahaha... you're so cool! It looks like someone's parents equated academic success with worthiness to be loved - and 2nd place with failure... neat!

😆

Im laughing at you not with you.

Back on topic,
As for post-acceptance grades...I say still try to get commendable grades without grinding to the bone like many of us have all of undergrad. Take a bit of a break! Im personally not OK with getting C's next semester, I just can't do it. A few B's wouldn't make me fret too much though, Im gonna focus on other things like 😴 and :hardy: !! hooray for class of 2013!

Phi Beta Kappa key? I couldn't afford that! I just have the contributing member card that told me to carry if I donated to PBK, but I carry it anyway 🙂

Does anyone else actually enjoy learning?

I like going to class, I'm just slightly completely less neurotic about gardes. I no longer pull all nighters. I went out two nights in a row last weekend. I think getting the accept gives you the ability to not KILL yourself. I still try to get all A's and what not, I'm just not sleeping one night a week in the science building, ya know. Still, I don't skip classes or anything. I think most people share my sentiment.

As for Mr. Sparkle Key...I continue to disagree
1) Nobody thinks you're special.
2) Why do you feel the need to play mom to people who "think" they are slacking (I doubt most people on here can even concieve what slacking is)?
3) You actually spend time polishing keys, really?

Back on topic:

By maintain, wouldn't you think they mean something to the effect of, "Don't get C's". I think it is just a caution flag from the schools that accept you not to go into the tank.

Schools except you because you're "this kind of student" or "this kind of person." Just keep doing what you're doing. Don't intentionally slack off in classes and get busted for drugs or something.

Just don't fail any classes and you're fine. Enjoy life while you have free time.. once med school starts you're gonna wish you were one of those "slackers" who let his/her grades slip post acceptance.

I changed all my remaining classes to P/F after I got in. Nobody cared.

Its extremely hard to stay motivated with the end in sight. If I wasn't graduating in three years, thus required to finish up a bunch of classes, AND if I had an acceptance, I sure would be trying to take it easy! This could be the last time we get to for a long, long time!

I took a W (withdrawal) from a course first semester because I had too many classes and interviews to keep up with. You guys think my accepted schools will care? :scared: My other grades were/are fine (B and up)

If you listed the course as a "future course" on your AMCAS, you need to call the schools and let them know that you will not be taking it. A few of my acceptance letters specifically state that I need to complete everything I listed. Some schools care, and some don't. I wouldn't bet my acceptance on it though.

Really? They hold you to those? I wasn't even sure what classes I'd be taking all year when I filled that out. My advisers said just to ballpark it...

Didn't you ever want time to enjoy your undergrad experience in other ways, by maybe - I don't know - hanging out with your friends? And If you say you had plenty of time, then you didn't need to work as hard as many of us do to get straight A's (which would make me jealous), and then your argument is not even really valid.

I'm 90% sure you'll be fine (assuming they didn't state anything to the contrary on your acceptance letter). But it really depends on the school... as you're getting ready to start, the last thing you need is getting a phone call saying that you didn't complete what you stated you'd complete. Call them and be 100% sure.

👍👍 working pretty hard gets you B's at my (top 10) school. I took senior year to make up for all the fun I didn't get to have the other 3 years and get recharged for medical school; I would hope adcoms can understand that.

Well, now I'm glad I didn't put down any future courses.😀

<--------- Finishing semester weakly, and with a hangover.

AMCAS specifically says that anything we list under future courses is tenative and we will *NOT* be held to that.

The only reference I've seen about you having to finish "future courses" is if you had a *prereq* that you handn't completed yet that was listed under future courses. Like, a second english class for a school that requires a year of english or something.

--Prepare for an injection of honesty--

Put me on the "I'm taking easy electives for As because I'm already accepted" group.

Do you know how much basketball/volleyball/baseball/dating I can do right now?! This is THE LIFE.

Do I like learning for it's own sake? Sure I do. I'll learn 10 hours of school work in 3 easy classes and enjoy the hell out of some free time for the last time til I retire.

Ah, to be a working non-trad out of college and not have to worry about any of this. Although I did sign up for an evening yoga class (yep, it was for credit) at a local college just for fun this year and then a few weeks in I realized that I should've saved the tuition money for upcoming deposits, so I dropped the class for a refund. Technically it's a "W" and I already let schools know at my interview, but none of them cared. My situation is a lot different than the college senior having "W's" on their transcript though.

I had a great social life in college. I played varsity soccer in college for four years, competed in national snowboard competitons in border cross and slope style, sang in a mixed group acapella choir, belonged to a college fraternity, partied hearty every Friday night, generally had a ball. I studied efficiently and consistly and cut all of the extraneous junk out of my lifestyle, like television and video games. College was a blast. You do not have to enter a monastary or convent to be a successful premed. Perhaps the folks who want to slack at the end, never enjoyed the journey or had any fun along the way. Too bad.

searun i gotta be honest...you seem like a really arrogant prick.

Apparently some people on this thread agree with you. But I have to be honest. Life is good. And when I was snowboading on winter break, life was really good.

typical fratboy prick...

Crud. From reading this, it doesn't sound good. I was plannig to take cell bio, genetics and biochem and a whole bunch of other classes for my minor in my senior year so I can fulfill requirement. I figured if grades don't matter as long as I pass, I'll be okay.

Has anybody ever gotten their admission revoked because of a C?

Dude, you're a homo.

I doubt they would revoke an acceptance because of a C in a hard class. I'm sure you could talk to them. I mean it should be fine as long as your GPA doesn't suffer too much. However, don't make it a habit and get multiple C's. One is enough.

I guess it's just natural for us to worry. I'm in Cbio right now too and I'm always worried what will happen if I do bad. I mean I worked so hard to get in to medical school. Is it possible now at the very end to mess it up? It's just that last bit of extra stress med schools like to give accepted people just so they won't quit undergrad.

Dude, you're a homo.

With all due respect, I think that you are violating SDN's code of ethics. However, I do confess that I thought "Milk" was a great film.

My letter says "you must complete satisfactorily any pending academic requirements, including any program in which you were entered at the time of your interview..." So I'm guessing as long as I graduate and don't get any Ds or Fs I'll be fine.

any stories of revoked admission because of a line of Cs?

the douchebaggery in searun is high. higher than the horse he's on. lol, ok but seriously, who gives a crap what the grades are after youre in. i wouldnt if i was an adcom.

i dont care how "awesome" someone is, there's noway anyone can get piss drunk and stupid high and show up to a class with the will to do well. but that's what most people want to do. get really hammered and have some fun.

and you dont have to learn just for the sake of learning. that sounds like typical pre-med starry-eyed BS. PEOPLE need to take breaks and have FUN. people can't be robots and learn 24/7, it's just not fun or human.
