If all you guys getting your scores now would take the time to post your practice test scores (AAMC, TPR, Kaplan, etc.) alongside your real thing it would be great. Include the score breakdowns and any commentary if you feel so inclined. Thanks!

haha, I was reading this thread just as u bumped it up. I read these old threads occasionaly to try to convince myself that if these people did well on the practice tests and did well on the mcat then so will I.

Looks like everyone here has done quite well. Mostly Everyone above 30
is there anyone didnt?

To the ones who did well, are the questions on the real thing SIMILIAR to the questions on the Practice AAMC test?????

thanks
VP

kaplan diag: 23
practice 1: 25
practice 2: 26
practice 3: 27
practice 4: 30
practice 5: 29

Actual: 32 R, 11P, 11B, 10 V

I agree with what's been said about Kaplan tests: that Kaplan PS is generally harder (I never got above 8-9 on practices, higher PS on the actual test brought up my overall score a couple of points), BS is comparable, and VR is mostly comparable within a point or two. I didn't really study my content early enough so practice wasn't quite as effective for me as it could have been... oh well!

I know it's lame, but I always get encouraged when I see people improve 3 or more points from their pratice tests on the real deal. Makes me think that just maybe it will happen to me as well. :luck:

me too! i forget who, but some guy was getting low to mid 20's on practice exams, then scored a high 30 on the real thing! i was inspired 😀

oh... but he also said that he was drunk during his practice exams, but still, impressive nonetheless 😛

Yeah, I read that post a little while ago. Cracked me up...I wonder if he was telling the truth. 😀

Isn't the average supposed to be 24? I was told the test is standardized so the the average on each section is 8. There's no average SDNers?

God, I'm gonna feel like sh** when I am posting my 26N in June. 🙁

i think that the people who score 30+ are just more comfortable letting everyone know their scores. it's just like in college or high school. if everyone around you is talking about their awesome score on a particular test and you look down at your exam and see that you barely passed, chances are you're not going to be so quick to talk about what you got w/the rest of them. i feel certain that there are more <30 scores out there on sdn than there are 30+, it's just that people don't want to look/feel inadequate next to these awesome scores (when they shouldn't feel that way at all).

the bottom line is that everyone who worked hard to prepare for this exam should be congratulated, despite the fact that some didn't get the score they hoped for. just taking the exam is an accomplishment imo. even if you have to take the exam again at least you have the benefit of experience and will probably be more prepared to take it the next time around. 👍

That's completely true.

SDN is full of anal pre-meds. Anal pre-meds tend to prepare harder and that tends to naturally boost scores. When I was an undergraduate pre-med I wasn't that into the whole pre-med lifestyle (living for ECs and studying constantly), so even if SDN had existed, I wouldn't have been on it. I also didn't prepare for the MCAT. I think there's a lot of test takers like I was.

Thank you for bolding those.

Come test your mettle in the Everyone Forum. 😎

lorelei, JYNX 😀 (see below)

I find this post funny. What, only the 40+ people get an official invite to the Everyone forum? Do you guys have members only jackets in there too?

I took all available practice AAMC tests and got 30-32 on all of them.

Ended up with a 31M (Yeah, the M kinda sucks!), but was quite ill during the exam... I'd had a root canal the day before and was in quite a bit of pain. So I think maybe the AAMC practice test predict a little low. I was happy with my score, though, given the circumstances and all. And I should definitely have practiced the writing section at least once before the test!

Good God why did you schedule a root canal right before your test??

It was kind of an emergency... The tooth was abscessing (it was actually a failed previous root canal) and the pain was excruciating. I saw my endodontist on the Tuesday before the test and we decided to hold off and do the root canal the week after the MCAT. I took antibiotics but it didn't ease the pain much and I didn't want to take heavy pain medicine (codeine and MCAT do not mix!), so I called my endodontist and he gave me an emergency root canal on Friday in hopes of relieving the pain for the MCAT. So while the tooth still hurt on MCAT Saturday it was more of a dull ache than the sharp agonizing pain I felt earlier in the week.

That sucks! It's great how you still managed to break 30 though!

Well hopefully that holds true come october. The only thing that bothers me is how accurate Kaplan tests are. I understand they are more difficult but it just seems to have a lot more generous of a curve then the aamc tests so it kind of bothers me that on some kaplan tests -20 is like a 12 but on aamc -20 is a 10. I dunno i shouldnt worry bout that, im sure the kaplan ppls know what they are doing.

oh and my two favorite guju sayings are, " 9/10 people will score +/- 1pt from their practice tests" and " You can get the aamc score conversion charts from e-mcat!"

In general, I think the Kaplan tests are a bit harder. I got a 28, 30, 35, 34, 34 on the 5 Kaplan tests. I got a V15, B13, P14 on the April. I would say in general that physical is harder in Kaplan, Bio is probably comprable, and Verbal is really a crap shoot as someone else has said. It all depends on the passages you get.

Hey what was you major? How did u study?
