Hey guys, I wanted to ask future and present dentists about the history of root canals and the steps to complete one.

I am currently a dental assisting student who is supposed to do a Speech presentation on something that I like and can teach the class. Along with other things that I can do, none of them are dental related and we have to do an Oral Hygiene Speech in another two weeks to come.

I was wondering if you guys knew any historical information about root canals (when it began, how it advanced, who started it.etc.) Also can you also identify the steps in detail?

1. Removing decay
2. Create a Straight Line Access
3. Identify & Locate the canals
4. start with a .08 or .10 hand file and work your way up. and so on

I'm just giving examples here, but the more help the better.

Also, can you tell me when to irrigate the canals and why most doctors use bleach to irrigate it(most efficient disinfectant). Any websites would be great as well. Thank you all for your time.

Hey if your looking for basic info, there is this thing called Google. Works really well, type in root canal procedure and you will get like 143000 sites to inform you.🙄

hey ebull, thanks, actually that's what I am doing right now lol..(caught the sarcasm). I was actually looking for more indepth information, like the files needed to be used, different type of irrigations and so on. I understand the regular concepts of a root canal, I just wanted a detailed outline of it. Thanks anyway though.

I don't think people are answering you cause after you get the basics...which all those google sites will give you plenty of information on...the rest depends upon the tooth and root in question.
