Anyone else get this email from UCSD?

"Hello,

Your application has been put on hold for possible interview. This means we will not be interviewing you at this time, however, you may be interviewed at a later date. Please be advised that we only interview 25% of those receiving secondary's."

ARGH! I guess I should be happy it's not a rejection, but still...ARGH!

You and me both...is this an effective rejection?!

Sorry, guys, that stinks...
but consider that you got a secondary...I have a 3.6/34 from a top school...and didn't even get a secondary....compare our self-esteem levels and then we'll talk...haha

g'luck to y'all for this cycle...i'm sure you'll be fine

here here. Even tho my stats are way below that. I heard some people get off the pre interview hold. Just make sure you show interest.

Scary...this topic was something I brought up... I guess this is the best place for it...

I didn't know where to post these question:

How many people think holds for interview are not backhanded ways of saying if we could risk rejecting you, we would've?

How many people think holds for interview are euphemistic ways of saying we're trying to get rid of our awesome applicants first?

LoL. Just curious.

this might just be me being extra-hopeful, but i feel like med schools really enjoy getting people out of their hair. if they can reject you they will. so, my feeling is that it's only a rejection if it explicitly says so. on the other hand, a hold isn't quite as desirable as an interview, but at least your application isn't in the 'rejected' pile yet

I posted this earlier, but in some cases IMO it's better to be a "good fit" for a school rather than overqualified. Sure you might get interviewed later, but you have a higher chance of being accepted and matriculating. Of course, I'm talking about schools outside the very top tier where it's essentially impossible to be overqualified.

Well I'm talking more about schools that are famous for NOT rejecting. From my personal experiences with people who have applied, no UC really rejected until the latter half of the interview process. Possibly pre-secondary, but not really after that. For me, I always view holds as "just in case" for us (the medical college) not really for you (the applicant).

Am I wrong about my statements about the UCs? 😛

Hi Zendoc-

I'm sorry you didn't get an interview yet, but I still wish you the best, and there's still hope at UCSD! May I ask how long after your file was complete you received this email?

Hi! Thanks! I was complete on July 25! 🙁 Thanks for the uplifting words...good luck to you too. I'm not really worried about being put on a pre-interview hold too much, just more frustrated.
