Several schools that I'm interviewing for have pre-interview socials on the night before the interview. Are these important to attend? Does it look bad if you don't?
These are more for your benefit than anything, in that they let you get a taste of what students from that school are like in a social setting. You may also get more candid feedback from students in that setting. Nobody will care if you don't show because we know interviews are a grind, but you miss out on the chance to gain information that may help inform your own decision.
If you are interviewing at a school that uses MMI format, the social is a good time to ask your questions for the program because you won't get a good opportunity on your actual interview day, chances are. (Be appropriately nervous for your interview performance. )
