As a 2012 entering freshman, I would take the new MCAT2015. I heard that there will be a new psychology and sociology section and that the science sections will be modified;

With this new MCAT, besides the pre med reqs, will I need to take 2 psychology and sociology classes also? Or what classes specifically would be recommended so I am prepared for that section? And since biochemistry and cell/molecular biology is being added and i am a biomedical eng major, will my regular classes likely cover those subjects or will I also need to take an additional class for them?

thank you

Hi there! I'm also a freshmen this year and will be taking the 2015 MCAT. To be honest, it scares the crap out of me. The MCAT has been pretty much the same for 20 years or more. The learning resources that are established are tried and true. This becomes not the case in 2015 because there are a lot of major changes. All we can do is stay on top of it and follow AAMC recomendations. Below is a link with all the information you should need. Best of luck!

👍

I am also a rising freshman and the 2015 MCAT scares me too! I am not smart by any means, I just work my butt off. I cannot beat 80%-90% of MCAT takers without some severe machine like studying. At least I have the work ethic and drive. Anyways, the MCAT 2015 will get review books and the studying shouldn't be any different. Pretend it is the normal MCAT without writing, without too much orgo, physics but with more social science.

OP, definitely take those class, they wont hurt you and they should be fairly easy classes-depending on your professor.

Possible 2015-MCAT-er here as well. So far I've learned that the recommended classes are:
Bio I and II
Chem I and II
Physics I and II
OChem I and II
Psychology
Sociology
Biochemistry
From my understanding, these new three are recommended and I will be taking them. Also, I am also slightly afraid for the new MCAT, but hey we're all in the same boat and there's no more of that god-awful writing section at least 😀

Taking a brand new standardized test isn't as scary as you would think. I am lucky I get to take the new one too and I also was the first graduating class that took the new SAT when they changed it. Just follow the info they offer and do not pass up a chance to take the practice one since the study material will be new that will be the biggest help for knowing what you are in for.

The MCAT is a little different from the SAT in that it actually requires some studying, while the SAT really doesn't test any learned material. I was also the first class to take the new SAT, and to be honest, I didn't even know about the change until my family asked me how the new scores compared to the old ones!

However, you are right in that it's not a bad thing to take the new one. Everyone will be in the same boat; in fact it might be better for you, as there will be less material for people to do intense prep with, so you won't be competing with that!

Yep that was exactly my point. It is a completely different test but nothing to be terrified of. Didn't mean to sound like it was a cake walk and to be treated like the SAT, just comparing tests changing. ^.^;;

Haha I only knew about the SAT changes because I had a friend who decided to drag me to the trial test for it. Didn't really make a lick of a difference though since like you said its the walk in and take it sort of test.
