hey guys,

I'm currently a junior in undergrad. But because of studying abroad, i'm going to have to graduate a semester late (december instread of april). here's a couple of questions....

1.) will i have to apply a the year after i graduate?

2.) should i rush my courses to graduate on time but get so-so to not so-so grades?

3.) would applying a year effect my chance of getting into a medical school????

4.) during the period after i graduate and before med. school, should i be involved w/ summer researches???

I'm currently a biochem major GPA 3.7

You don't have to be finished your degree in order to apply. If you are taking the MCAT next spring you can still apply. Don't worry about the "graduating" late.

The only negative is it might effect your interview schedules since you will not be able to interview early. But you might be able to circumvent that if they allow phone interviews or something of the like, if not you might have to wait until you get back to school.

I don't really see any problem here. This isn't a race. If you apply to med school a year later, what's the big deal? Use the extra time to bulk up your ECs and maybe earn some $ for school. Do not ever rush to do something "on time" at the expense of your grades. If you take a minute to look through the nontrad posts, you will see that there is no such thing as "on time" -- there are people here going to med school decades after undergrad.
