Here's my sorry tale of pre-med guerrilla warfare; any thoughts appreciated, whatever they may be:

I'm majoring in finance at a small local university, where the majority of my credits were transferred from an assortment of different institutions.

I've decided to go to medical school, and am now cramming my pre-reqs, post-bacc style sans structure, so as to finish the process.

I am doing my pre-reqs in a different college than my "parent college"; moreoever, I'm doing half my pre-reqs as a visitor in one college, and the other half as a visitor in the other. For technical reasons, it had to be this way.

My transcript is hopelessly fragmented, and I feel like I am doing pre-med guerrilla warfare style.

I did Bio 1, Chem 1, and Chem 2 in the summer, and got an A+ on all of them. In this semester I am doing Orgo 1, Physics 1, and Bio 2. So far my overall GPA is 3.95, and my EC's include volunteer work in Russia and China, and an active EMT-B. These factors give me faint hope.

For any of you with experience or knowledge in this game- how do things look for me? What is your opinion on this method?

Dude, as long as you mantain that kick ass gpa, I don't see what you have to worry about. Your EC's seem decent too. Now throw in a good MCAT score and solid LORs and you'd be a shoo in for most med schools.

I wouldn't recommend this method, and neither would you, but you're pulling it off. Keep the numbers high and you have nothing to worry about.

I don't think you'll have a problem. When I decided to go to medical school (over 40, by the way) I had to piece together my pre-reqs from my local community college and upper-division stuff from a branch campus of a smaller state-supported university - it was the only way I could stay in my hometown and continue working until I got an acceptance. It worked fine for me - my undergrad and Masters' degrees were from a major state university with a national reputation in my major (business).

Perhaps I was hurt with the "big name" schools I applied to, but my state allopathic school was familiar with where I'd gotten my credits - my local community college has a strong pre-health program and some of the best labs available to students in the state. No problems there.

If your entire undergraduate experience is fragmented, be prepared to defend your need to do it that way in interviews - it will probably come up for discussion - but with your solid GPA and ECs, I don't think you'll have any problem getting interviews - so you'll have a chance to discuss your academic record and put a good spin on it - getting your foot in the door to give your dog-and-pony show is the big hurdle with issues like yours, and you should do fine.

I did my pre-reqs all over the place post-bacc with the majority of them being at various CC. It never came up at any school interviews. Relax you'll be fine.

Though if it had, I had my reasons - I was in grad school and working full time. The CC had classes I could attend at times that would fit in.

Thanx everyone; it's really nice to hear several opinions and piece together a general vibe.

-So now I have half a year to come up with some really good reasons.
