I'm going to be a senior in high school and I have to start applying to colleges soon. I am very interested in becoming a vet and I would like to know if you think it would be more advantageous to go to a college with a pre-veterinary program, or to just major in science. Do you think vet schools are more likely to choose someone who has been in a pre-vet program? Most of the schools with a pre-vet program are somewhar far, so I wouldn't want to go there unless there really is an advantage to it.

You don't need any specific major to go to vet school. You can get a BS in history, business, foreign languages, etc... and still get accepted as long as you have fulfilled all the required courses. Most people opt to get a BS in animal sciences/bio/chem because a lot of required classes for that major are also required classes for vet school.
Here's my advice: Choose a major that you will like and would provide you with career options in the event that vet school doesn't work out. That may seem harsh but that's what most vet school admissions committee will tell you if you ask them that same question. Good luck with undergrad and enjoy it to the fullest!
