I'm in almost the same boat, I'm trying to live down a poor undergrad GPA. I don't know whether I would actually re-take with a 34... probably not, I'd just adjust my list of schools.

I just can't bring myself to jinx myself with a prediction, but here's my emotional range:

0<= Bad News <=33
34<= Acceptable <=37
38<= Happy <=39
40<= Fall over in shock
That chart is pretty close to how I feel. Move all the numbers down 1.

I have a gut feeling who the potential 40s are but don't want to jinx them. I wonder what the SDN average will be?

Heres hopin for a 30! Cheers!

30=Phew, I did it
31-32=Good, I can apply to one or two reach schools
33-35=Damn, where the hell did that come from?
36-39=No one will believe me
40-44=No comment.
45=The AAMC will arrest me because I am not that smart.

0-26 ----> :scared: :barf:

27-29 ----> 🙁

30-35 ----> 😀

>35 ----> 😱

Practice test range 26-32. Really, really scared about a less than 30 score, I couldn't sleep the night before the test at all and I think PS killed me.

I had the most detailed, realistic dream ever where my score report read PS-10, VR-10, Writing-Q, and BS-14. Wouldn't that be sweet! But I doubt it will happen. I'm predicting a 31. 😛

0-29 => Goodbye Medschool!
30-34 => Goodbye Md/PhD!
35-45 => I'm going to Disneyland!!! 😀

eddie, i didnt' know you were also applying md/phd. you should read some of the stuff on the md/phd thread...a lot of people there have told me they had acceptances with MCAT scores between 30 and 34, so don't give up on it if you score in that range.

Hey scentimint, I definitely should research more. I'm applying in the next cycle so I'll have some time to find out more about the program and also retake the MCAT if necessary. Good luck with your application!!! 🙂

My current score reaction predictions:

<27 +pissed+ + heading to the liquor store

27-29 👎

30-32 👍

33-35 😎

36-38 👍 👍

39+ :laugh: + heading to the liquor store

:idea: Actually, the liquor store should be up there for all the options. :laugh:

With my work schedule, I mustered a solid four days of study time before the MCAT...and I haven't taken Biology since high school (taking A & P this fall and next spring for pre-reqs)...so, I'll be happy with a 3X (where X=0,1,2...).

31 i bet

below 29 not happy
29-... happy
30 my average
32 my high

I am thinking a minimum 13 on PS, I know I got one question wrong for sure sure so probably not 15 but possibly 14.

Verbal probably 11, 12 if I got lucky.

Biology I think I rocked so I hope 14, but def at least 13.

Score range: 37-40.

I will be bummed with anything below 30. But still keep in mind that people still get in with 28,29 scores. I'm thinking >32 would make me very happy. (11's on everything, super sweet).

Ballsy...I like it! Though the fact that you missed one question on PS for sure does not eliminate the possibility of a 15...remember, it is a scaled score!

Best of luck to you! It really would be awesome to score a 15 on even 1 section.

33 or 34 will probably get you in a good school if the rest of your other stuff is good too. Remember 34 is 90th percentile and 33 is about 88th percentile

Since roughly 40% or so of applicants in any one year get accepted to med school (right??), I would think anything even in the 75+ percentile would be great (like a 30 right?) if the rest of your app is decent and you write / interview well. Bottom line for many is to get a medical education and become a Doctor, irregardless of the school. You get out of the education what you put into it, even at lower and higher tier schools (although there are some advantages or disadvantages depending on the school to be sure).

It seems that the “consensus” is that a 30 is the magic number to get into A med school. However, it seems more and more that a 31 is the new lucky number.

ok, i'll risk jinxing myself:

-->29....oh crap

30-32....bah, ok, i'm gonna rock my interviews, non-trad power

33..... woohoo! practice tests are truly wise

34-36.... i am awesome god of testing!

37+..... hmmm? that's not right. now my karma's all messed up...

30J...fell asleep on the VR and WS

how do you fall asleep on one of the most important tests in your life? When I took the ACT there were several people, including my girlfriend at the time, who fell asleep. I never could understand how they could do that.

lol

So people go beyond their maximum, while some go below their minimum... You never know...

So I took 7 practice exams and my average score on them was 30 with a maximum score of 35. Does it seem likely I will break thirty (or at least score in the high twenties) on the real thing, given the hightened stress of test day? I am not trying to be obnoxious here, I am just real anxious about seeing my real score!

mmm, I had the same average and a high of 34. Did you steadily improve in your scores throughout your studying? I went from an AAMC 3R=27 to 4R=29 to 5R=34. My MCAT review instructor said that in his experience, people get +-1 on the real MCAT compared to their last AAMC 5R exam that he always has his students take a few weeks before the exam.

My Aug. 2005 score was PS: 7 VR: 9 WS: Q BS: 8 = 24Q

my predicted or projected April score is PS:9~10 VR:9~10 WS:Q BS:9

= ~27-29 Q

PS 9-10, VR 11-12, BS 11-12.... so 31-34?? We'll see in a week I guess!!

How sure is the instructor on that? I'm really curious to know!! I got a 34 on the 5R the day before the exam and am really good at predicting my MCAT scores. I have never been wrong. I'm pretty sure I got a 25 or 26 on April 2006 (Why? The VR!!!)! Can your instructor approximate how much percent of students score +/- 1 from their 5R score versus the people that take a nose dive? I guess it doesn't really help me anyways, but is still nice to know!

Well, his students contact him back with the score they got, and he correlates it with the 5R scores we gave him during the course. It's just his observation, and not some exhaustive study including thousands of samples. He believed that the 5R exam was one of the hardest AAMC exams, so it was a good indicator in his opinion. He just said that "most" students get +-1 point from their 5R exam just before the real MCAT. I'm hoping he's right as I'd be getting a 33-35, which would probably lead to me passing out on the floor when I find out. :luck:

I wouldn't assume that you scored low on the VR just yet. It was a tough section and will probably have a more forgiving curve. If you finished it or came close you may have done well.

so i've had two dreams thus far. in the first i dreamt i got a 15 on PS, but that is all i saw. the second dream i got a 30, which i would be very content with except for the fact that my break down was 15PS 10BS 5VR. my entire family took the test with me for some reason. my overall score was better than theirs, but they all beat me on the verbal. i guess i am nervous about the verbal section. 🙁

New realistic low prediction: PS 9 , BS 10, VR, 11, Q (30)

New reach prediction: PS 11, BS 12, VR 13, S (36)

Probably will be: PS 10, BS 11, VR 12, R (33)

My average was a 30 on 7 practice tests (28, 30,30,30,31,31,31). I'm guessing I got a 28 or below thanks to VR!!!!!!!!!! In my latest dream, though, I got a 32 🙂 One can only hope

I thought VR will determine my score. But I know I bombed the 10Q passage, i hope it was experimental, or there will just be a nice curve.

VR- 8-10, likely 8 do to that passage, will die for a 9.
PS- 10-12 Trying to make a conservative range, avg 11 on practice tests, but was usually just a question shy of 12.
BS- Was really wierd, hard for me to judge, hoping for 9-11, would be happy with a 10 though.

27-33, would be so happy with a 30

:luck: :luck: :luck: All

I'm horrible at predicting my scores, but what the hell. When I left the testing center after the exam, I felt fine. The average of my AAMC exams was a 29-30. I'd be happy with a 28+, and over 30 would be awesome!
My guesstimate is:

PS: 9-10
VR: 11-12
BS: 8-9
Overall: 28-31

I had 2 MCAT dreams. In the first one I got a 25 and in the second, a 32, which averages out to a 28.5! 👍

Thanks! Yeah, I came close to finishing so hopefully it won't be a 5 or 6.
