Hi, I just have a question on exactly how important it is to have the pre-required courses for dental school admission as listed. Generally, it seems the basic requirements are:
English Composition 6 hours
Zoology or Biology (with Lab) 8 hours
Inorganic Chemistry (with Lab) 8 hours
Organic Chemistry (with Lab) 8 hours
Physics (with Lab) 8 hours
I feel like I have all the required courses (except English which I will finish off next semester) but I am not sure if schools will consider the courses I took as equivalent (I will be a Canadian applicant) to the ones listed.
My major concern is inorganic chemistry since in my program, in first year, the only "inorganic" chemistry I did was 'general chemistry' for one semester (with lab) - hope this will be counted; this is I suppose only equivalent to 4 credits. But I have done many upper level chem courses including thermodyanics, bio-inorganic chemistry, structure and bonding, transition metal chemistry and organometallic chemistry (without labs). I have done an advanced analytical chemistry lab and that's about it (all my other labs have been either biochem, organic chem or biology).
Now my question is, do I really need to take a first year chemistry class after all this? Will schools consider my whole application since I don't really see the point of doing a first year chemistry class after I've done far more advanced courses.
Thanks.
