I am extremely interested in radiology and see it as a perfect fit for my interests and personality. The problem is, I failed STEP 1 once and only got a 200 the second time through. My preclinical grades are mediocre, but I do have radiology research and I know the program director at my school pretty well. Anyone out there know of any miracle methods to help me get a position in even a low tier program? 🙁

I'll take the lack of replies as to mean that I am screwed.....

Don't give up hope. I would avoid many of the top tier programs and apply to lower tier progams. Try to get more involved in radiology research and get some strong LORs. Also, and way more important, do really well on your clinicals - try to honor as many rotations as you can and get as many nice comments you can get on your evaluations - the Case Files series by Eugene Toy were my favorite preparation for the shelf exams. Take step 2 early and try to score as high as you can so that your score will be in before September 1 when you should submit your application.

Also, due to your step 1 score, I would be prepared to have a backup plan just in case you do not get in.

PM me for more advice as well.

I would suggest the same things!

Your best bet will probably be your home radiology program so anything you can do to impress the PD (be it working with him an extra year in research before applying for residency, etc.. etc...) would be a good idea!
