Has anyone with an early October interview heard anything? 👍 👎 :scared: 😍

hey towlie, did you get the call today?

Nope... yesterday. I doubt they will be calling anyone today or tomorrow.

Just be patient, Yes/Yes is definitely a good sign.

congrats towelie!!!! i'll bet the waiting made it all the sweeter. happy thanksgiving, see you at second look. 🙂

uhh, but wouldn't yes/yes also be a necessary but not sufficient condition for a rejection?

They seem to prefer to keep Yes/No for rejections, and Yes/Unknown for waitlists.

so has pritzker pretty much kept to their 6-8 week schedule? should i be worried if i don't get some news exactly when it strikes 8 weeks, or should i relax?

Don't worry. It took them longer than 8 weeks to tell me anything.

so has anyone received any paper from these folks? i'm yes/yes but have received no call, and i feel no need to call them and ask my status. however, it would be nice to see it in writing.

Anybody recently get a YES/NO status change, but no interview invite on the same day it changed? I just noticed that my status has changed to YES/NO. It must have occured the day before Thanksgiving. I am assuming that a little, thin rejection letter will be arriving in the mail early this week since I didn't receive an invite on the same day. Any thoughts?😕

Donks, when were you complete at Pritzker? I'm still waiting for a status change.

hi guys, i was yes/yes about 2 wednesdays ago, and just this past saturday i got an envelope saying i was accepted! i originally interviewed 9/21, so i guess you just have to be real patient with pritzker. hope that helps, good luck to all!

also, i was never, to my knowledge, called. however, i listed my parent's number and they are rarely home during the day. which sucks for me since it seems like schools rarely leave messages.

good to hear bullet. i actually met you that day, maybe we'll be classmates!

oh really? awesome! we'll have to meet up during second look (assuming your yes/yes is just like everyone else's yes/yes, which im sure it is)!

wow so everyone's statuses changed a long time ago and they just haven't gotten the call? it's been 8 weeks for me and my status is still yes/no. is there anyone with an october interview whose status has changed?

shameless bump

any comments appreciated!

My status for "Interview Decision" changed sometime over Thanksgiving. I called them today and they informed me that I wouldn't be offered an interview this year....

Good luck to everyone else.

Anyone with an October interview heard anything from Pritzker yet or have their status change to Yes/Yes?

mine says that now too. i really wish the letter would come in the mail because i don't want to bother their office staff. perhaps this move is to encourage people to stop checking the status page.

I think its a move to get people to stop calling and ask about their status...i got this message too and almost had a heart attack when i saw the words congratulations...

for people that interviewed, did u stay in international house? what kind of amenities did they have for interviewees? Thanks

I stayed there. It's like a dorm. Kind of gross--you have to share a bathroom. They do have a TV in the room and they give you towels and soaps.

I stayed there...was not that bad...the bathrooms were at least very clean when I was there...the room is small but it has what you need...it is only one night and its cheap compared to hotels around there so I reccomend it

good luck to you also Tee when is your interview? Best of luck!

so has anybody gotten a letter from Pritzker, acceptance or otherwise? I mean, if they have known our status for over two weeks, what's holding up the letter sending?

hi y'all,

my post is a little off topic 🙄 but i was wondering what other people thought about pritzker during their visit. i interviewed there in mid october and while i LOVED the school, thought that the facilities were amazing, the curriculum was cool, i was a little disappointed when talking with some of the students. they didn't seem happy at all and appeared to be overly stressed (there wasn't an upcoming exam looming in the near future either) did anyone else sense this? i'm just curious because i'm hoping i had the wrong impression of the pritzker students.

anyways, i am ALSO still waiting to hear back from them.

I sensed this as well. They have a lot of exams (compared to other schools), and spend a ton of time in lecture, which seems very stressful. They also have a very low average board score for such a prestigious school, which scares many of the second year students.

All the Pritzker students I've talked to LOVED the school and didn't actually seem that stressed considering they had exams coming up. One M-1 actually took time to come in and answer our questions and share her love of the school when she had an anatomy exam later that day.
I've also heard that their USMLE test scores are lower than you'd expect, but Pritzker students have a reputation for being amazing at what they do, which is why they consistantly get placed in the top residency programs. In other words, residency programs WANT Pritzker students, no matter their scores.
I was really, really impressed by the program.
I probably won't hear from them until January....the suspense is killing me!

It took about 2 weeks to get a letter after I got an acceptance phone call.

This just happened to me today. i sent them an email asking if there had been some mistake and my status page should have been updated with something else. did they ever get back to you?

my status just went from "No/No" to "No, a decision has not been made/No". Is this a ******ed way of saying i'm on pre-interview hold?

lol i get the same thing, but in another thread i think we agreed that this is not a hold, they give a different message for a hold. i maintain this is just they haven't gotten to your apps

As a first year Pritzker student just finishing up fall quarter (our last exam is tomorrow - YES!!!), I guess I feel a need to comment on this. I'll guess I have a couple of things to say: First, I definitely LOVE Pritzker. The small class size is awesome, and they do a great job selecting a really particular kind of student - not just people who are ridiculously smart, but people who are team players and have interests outside of medicine as well. My classmates are awesome and I really like everyone here. Also, a huge plus for Pritzker is that they really encourage interaction between classes. I know a ton of second years and even some third years (although they're busy with rotations) and everybody treats each other equally and wants to help you out. There are always a ton of groups to get involved in, and interesting lectures etc to go to, and med students are always welcome and even encouraged to attend and welcome no matter what the atmosphere (attendings, residents, etc). It's a great community.

That being said - let me try and provide an explanation for the "stressed out" you may have seen. Basically, fall quarter of first year is *really* tough on the MS1s. It's the hardest quarter you have at Pritzker. There are a lot of exams, and things move very quickly - but they will at most medical schools. I would definitely say from what I've both seen myself and heard from those in years above me that it's the worst it gets - and winter quarter is much better and spring quarter is even better than that. That being said, the Pass/Fail system is AWESOME because there really is no competition whatsoever between the students, and everybody is always helping each other out and there's a real culture of cooperation and collaboration, which is truly amazing and I think particularly unique to Pritzker. In addition, you do take a lot of exams, but nothing is cumulative. Once you take an exam on the thorax, you're never going to be tested on the thorax again. That may sound like a recipe for cramming and forgetting, but it actually allows you the opportunity to learn things really in depth. I would say from what I've heard that the academic expectations placed on you at Pritkzer (in terms of the material you're responsible for, how in depth it goes) is higher than at other med schools, which can make it a little harder. But, it makes a huge difference not only when you get onto the wards, but also when you apply to residency. Pritzker students are regarded the way they are for a reason - because we get a superb, in-depth medical education - not just lectures tailored to getting high board scores. I really get the impression that we're being taught things we need to know, and they place more emphasis on that than "board-style" things, because it's more relevant to being a good physician. Plus, since we always place our students into awesome residencies, I think the adminstration doesn't stress too much about the somewhat meaningless stat of "average board scores".

Sorry for the rambling, I'm just trying to provide as clear a picture as possible for you guys (and I'm being completely honest - I have no association to the administration or AdCom). Feel free to post here or PM me with any questions/thoughts/comments etc on Pritzker, I'm happy to help.

How do those of you who have been accepted rate Pritzker compared to other schools? I'm very conflicted about them--I love Chicago and their facilities, but am not crazy about the long lecture hours, class ranking, and low board scores.

I liked Pritzker, I thought in general their students were older, more scholarly and interesting than some of the other schools. Of course, I am neither old nor scholarly nor interesting, so I would probably fit in better at some of the more frattish schools. If you're into academics or want to do extra degrees it's probably a great place to be. That said, if you want to get out in four years and go into a competitive specialty there are probably paths of less resistance.

On the topic of Pritzker, it has now been 3 weeks since it was reported that my status was known so I think I will call tomorrow to see what's up.

I would definitely recommend staying with students if you can...just one more person's brain to pick.

I love Chicago and their facilities, but am not crazy about the long lecture hours, class ranking, and low board scores.

Well, there is no class ranking whatsoever, board scores tend to hover around the national average (although match lists are solid every year), and there is 2-3 hours of lecture a day.

[lots of words]

This is spot-on. If you think this is doctored up (tee hee) somehow to make the school look better than it is, it's not; this is simply how it is here. People like it (despite what their faces might tell you on exam days, which, admittedly, are frequent).

...and there is 2-3 hours of lecture a day.

Not according to everything we're told throughout the interview day. The first block has lectures from 8-5, with the lectures reducing to 8-3 by the end of the first year. At least, this is how I remember it.

Anyway, the acceptance phone call just came in (interviewed 9/26)! Looks like I'll have some fun choices ahead of me. What's the University of Chicago's mascot? That's important stuff to consider.

Wow I interviewed 10/9 and have not heard anything...my status is still Yes/No...I wonder if I am on a waitlist or something

We're the Maroons, but the guy dances around in a phoenix outfit at games, as its pretty difficult to make a cartoonish representation of a color.
