Probably a stupid question about interviews Med school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's better to approach the process w/ the thought that you won't be the exception to the rule.

I don't think any of us can every say with confidence that it has never happened ever, but if it has, it is extremely rare. If it has ever happened, it is so rare that you can comfortably assume that it will definitely not happen to you.

Is every single person who a medical school accepts interviewed? Do they ever accept applicants without asking for an interview? Just wondering
The interview is a huge part of the application process these days. It matters, you aren't getting in anywhere without one, and you want to prepare for it and take it seriously. It is not a mere formality or something an adcom will dispense with,

Being a physician is a social profession. You can be the smartest scientist in the world but if you are not personable, they are not going to accept you.

There may be some crazy one off occasions where someone doesn't interview and gets in (like if their dad is the dean or the schools namesake), but in any circumstance I could realistically conceive an interview is still necessary. Even if your dad is the dean, or the guy who donated 200 mil to found the school, they'll probably still ask you to interview simply to cover their own asses.

I have a friend whose dad is a MD and director of the program she was applying to and her dad was the head of the admissions committee. She had a good gpa and MCAT so there was very little chance that she wasn't going to be accepted, but she still had to interview.

I can't imagine a situation in which the interview would be waived. Maybe if the dean already knows you and you are conducting Nobel Prize nominated research abroad and cannot fly back to the US and the school really wants a Nobel Prize winning student? Even then, I'm sure enough adcoms would get pissed that they would do some sort of interview

I've anecdotally heard of interviews for MD taking place by skype

also for residency skype or phone, but that's usually in the case of the Scramble not main match

and usually for all the above it seems like there are significant reasons an exception is being made
