Hi all,

I am so desperate for some help. Stat. I do really well on verbal ON PAPER. On average, get one wrong per passage. But then when I do it on the computer, I get 13 wrong. 15. I'm insulted and feel so degraded by this. I'm an avid reader and do perfectly fine on paper but BAMN when i take it on the computer during a diag, it's horrible. I stare at a screen. I don't retain anything. I don't know what's happening!! This does NOT happen when I do verbal on paper.

What's going on with my brain?! Can anyone help me? Please? The test is next week and this is just ridiculous now. I take princeton and it hasn't helped for verbal. I have 11s on my TPR diags in the other sections (the tpr ones! not aamc.)

Please please help me.

Thanks.

I think I would have to agree ....

I think you need a night out without thinking of school. Just go out and have fun.

How many verbal tests have you taken on the computer? It should be quite a few (8+) by now. Why do you think you can't do as well? Is it your strategy? Does it involve lots of pencil work? I don't think it has anything to do with reading the passage since you have to read passages in the other sections as well. Also, what material are you using, both for the paper and the computer? If the sources are different, then that could explain it. Another possible explanation is burnout. I think that verbal is the first section to suffer from burnout. Plus, it sounds like you're too stressed. You should take a day off without doing anything MCAT related.

maybe you should read some online articles such as from The Economist, New Yorker, newspapers, etc, just to get more used to reading verbal passages on the computer?

I think this is your best solution.

Do all the reading you can online. That should help. You just need to familiarize yourself with the format. I would recommended reading all your peer-reviewed journal articles online as well.

Oh, by the way...

STAT STAT STAT STAT STAT STAT!!!

Sorry... Couldn't resist the urge...

Great advice! I completely second that. It took a while for me to adjust to a computerized exam, because before that I did most of my online reading through email, Facebook, and stuff like that.

It will get better. And if you can do well on paper, then you obviously know ow to well on verbal. It's just a matter of adjusting your reading and concentration skills.
