Anyone know good sites to learn about programs? I've looked at SDNs and scutwork.com but both are hit n miss. Specifically trying to find out about uc Davis as ive heard mixed reviews and have heard that Sacramento is a dump. Thanks

I think it is not nice to call a city a dump without living here! I am one of UCDavis graduating seniors, and I can assure you that Sacramento is not that bad. You will be working most of the time in any residency, but if you are looking to go out and party 24/7 then maybe this is not a place.

I can only say what my experience is: approachable and nice faculty, supportive of whichever path you take (fellowship vs finding a job), great fellowship match (new results will come out tomorrow), hands on experience especially in cornea/phaco and plastics. Call schedule is front loaded, but less hectic second and third year.

I will be certified for Allegretto, and if I would have worked a bit harder probably would have gottent Intralase certificate aswell, but going into glaucoma so not very interested.

If you want my surgical numbers pm me, I can send you my report.

Match results came out and I think show the strength of the program:

Retina-Iowa
Retina-Mass Eye and Ear
Glaucoma- Jules Stein

On senior did not apply for a fellowship and has signed a contract for a comp position.

Pm me if you have further questions.

Great match list. Sorry though, I lived in elk grove outside sac and it is a dump.

Elk Grove is a dump. Please don't compare it to Mid town, Roseville, Granite Bay, etc. - Sacramento proper areas.

How's Pittsburgh btw?

Sorry for any offense. After visiting I actually really liked the program and the facul.ty/residents. I didn't get to see much of sacramento, but people said they really liked living so close to tahoe, san francisco, napa. It is definitely a great program and sacramento would actually be a pretty great place to live..if you choose the right area I guess.
