Programs accepting shared pairs?

What does that mean?
Under my reports (where you find what parts of the country have open spots in each specialty) on the NRMP page, there is another link that is titled:
"programs accepting shared pairs". Carolinas and GW are on there for EM.
What does that mean? Does that mean they have open spots? or am I just dreaming unreasonably?
Does that mean for couples only?
Anyone?

I am pretty sure it means that there is someone there who is doing part time, and thus they need someone else to work part time.

I think McNinja is right. I remember (from somewhere or other) hearing that 2 people do the residency part time. I was under the assumption that it was mostly FM based.
