Certain program websites (Duke, for instance) says that they want undergrad transcripts and raw USMLE scores. Should I send these right now? Or will Duke send me an email notifying me that they need these? Which other ERAS participating programs ask for such add'l info?

Thanks for the input!

Email or call them directly and ask them.

What are "raw" usmle scores? They want to see the component breakdown?

I thought we already released our USMLE scores (via the NBME) to them through ERAS. I don't understand what exactly they want. Do they want us to photocopy our score sheets and send it to them?

Yes, and yes

Emailed the program coordinator at Duke today. They want you to (a) photocopy the scores that you received from the NBME and (b) a copy of your undergraduate transcript. Both of these are used in making decisions as to who gets an interview.

Important f/u question: Does anybody know which other ERAS programs require supplemental information?

I am applying to Duke...even doing a rotation there. However, I am having problems obtaining a score report for Step 1. For some reason, my original score report has disappeared out of my file box...I have searched my house top to bottom, but I cannot find it. I contacted my school - they don't have a copy of the graph portion. I went to the NBME site...the transcript you can request is the same that ERAS submits. There is no subject performance graph.

Does anyone have any suggestions on who to contact to obtain a copy of the full performance report?

Thanks!

Many thanks for other applicants who helped compile this info. The following three ERAS programs require supplemental information:

1. Duke: Raw USMLE scores (e.g. photocopy the score report that was mailed to you) and undergrad transcripts

2. WashU: Undergrad transcripts

3. UCSF: One journal reprint, abstract, or paragraph describing one of your research projects or achievements AND a short paragraph describing your role in the project and why you chose it for submission to the selection committee.

If you know of any others please add them to this list or PM me and I will do it for you. Good luck to everybody!

How are we supposed to know if these places require this stuff? Do they contact the applicants? Do we fax the materials to them?

The three listed above were on the program websites. I would not wait for them to contact you, as these materials are used to choose interviewees. As to how you should get the info to them, I suppose snail mail would be fine though I'd email/call to see if they'll take a fax.

this was news to me. thanks for the helpful info!

Adding to this from this recent year, the only one I can think about off the top of my head is the NCI program. A bunch of people during the application cycle didnt even know you had to apply separately via their website (you can google the NCI radiation oncology program). It was greyed out on the ERAS application so many people thought they weren't accepting applications.

Caveat about this though: you will have to pay $50 to send your USMLE transcript (via the USMLE website) to these guys, in addition to asking your office of student affairs to specifically send your med school transcript, letters of rec, etc specifcally to the NCI.

If I think of others, I'll chime in!

I believe UCSF requires a journal reprint or abstract and a paragraph describing your role in the project and why you chose to submit it. oh wait, it was mentioned in Gfunk's previous post.

Also make sure they are accepting a civilian this year, some years they only match military candidates.

Duke's and WashU's websites say nothing about requiring raw USMLE scores or undergrad transcripts... I suppose a phone call is in order unless anyone happens to know if this is still an application requirement.

I interviewed/applied to Duke and Wash U last cycle and there was nothing extra application wise than ERAS...

+1. Remember this an old thread that was revived. Started when the venerable GFunk was applying to residency.

+1... Ah yes, forgot about that!

Duke did have this requirement when I applied ('06). Not a great way to screen applicants IMO and says a little about the flavor of program you are applying to if they are reaching back to nitpick about your MCAT physics score.

This a great thread. Did not want it to get lost. 🙂

For the UCSF supplemental material, should we submit a copy of a manuscript or abstract that has already been published/submitted or is it okay to submit an abstract for a project that is ongoing?

Definitely get permission from your PI before submitting unpublished data. Some faculty are pretty hawkish about sharing research ideas/results before they're published.

Does city of hope require official transcripts or can we just send unofficial transcripts for now?

Hey guys,
I was wondering what is the best way to get in contact with city of hope to ask them how to send the transcripts. I did email the coordinator 2 days ago, but did not hear any thing. Any suggestions please.
Thanks🙂
