Ok I feel like I have been living under a rock! I had no idea that prosthetics were being done on horses. I'm not sure how I feel about it though. What about all of you?
 
If it leads to a better quality of life for the horse with less chance of euthanasia (and the client can pay for it and the rehab), sure! Why not? Then again, if it's not a better quality of life, the horse is still in major pain that can't be easily managed, and they're doing it just to keep it alive, eh...then that's trickier.
 
It's awesome, it has the potential to save some awesome breeding stallions and embryo donor mares.

That's actually what I was thinking. I wonder if amputation and a prosthetic were ever considered for Barbaro.

I'm sure they were, Dr Redden consulted several times on the case according to statements in The Bloodhorse
