I'm glad this post was started. I have applied to UNC, UIC, San Antonio, Baylor and UCLA. I haven't heard from anyone yet. Anyone know which programs would be the most progressive? Top 5 schools for Pros perhaps?

I've applied to BU, UNC, Michigan, USC, UIC, Alabama, OSU, MU, Tufts. Congrats on your interviews, Good Luck.

I've decided I will be applying next cycle - any advice from current applicants? I am working with a prosthodontist in the Navy currently and finishing up next year. Thanks!

I have an interview at USC. They have different dates starting next week and ending in Oct.

What are Pros interviews like? What do they look for that's different from other residency/specialty programs?

Which would be good program to apply for international grad?

Thanks, yes I am. However, I have a 1-year clinical certificate at UCLA, and currently doing a 2-years clinical certificate at USC.
I just got invitation from Rochester.

I have been thinking about UW they sent me a detailed schedule about the exam... It is gonna be hard.

What do you know about Rochester?
I heard they invite a lot of students for few positions.

Do you have news from other schools??

I didn't hear anything from the schools. Thats true Rochester invites lots of people to interviews.I didn't apply to Rochester.Any Good luck.Keep posting.

I got invitation from NYU and USC. They responsed rapidly after I submitted.

Rochester in NY or The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I know that Mayo is the hardest prosth program to get into in the country because they have an MP fellowship attached. It's basically the prosth mecca. Awesome stipend too. I hear that Rochester, NY is just meh. I wouldn't commit to anything until you check out other places if they offer you a spot.

Hi guys. I just had interview at NYU. They are going to accept around 8 residents. The interview was simple and easy going. Unfortunately, they don't offer MS jointly with Pros certificate.... That's my big downside... From all the 3rd year residents just one is pursuing the board accreditation. It's a nice environment. The program director is a very nice person. They have a good pool of patients. I hope this help for you.

LOL that's the best joke I have ever read in this forum... Based on what is the best program?? They don't do research, they don't have any famous prosthodotist as faculty, etc.
Stipend doesn't matter in order to get a good education, look at all bad VA Hospitals programs in the USA....

I'm glad this post was started. I have applied to UNC, UIC, San Antonio, Baylor and UCLA. I haven't heard from anyone yet. Anyone know which programs would be the most progressive? Top 5 schools for Pros perhaps?

What do you mean by progressive? A lot of digital stuff and implants? We're a classic program in San Antonio doing some progressive things - but we're certainly doing more impressions and casts than scans and CAMs.

There aren't any ranks out there - it's impossible because applicants are looking for different things and programs offer different things. Some emphasize boards, some don't. Some emphasize lab work some don't. Some teach pantography some don't. Anyway, of the programs I applied to, my thoughts are:

UT San Antonio (attending)
- Pros: heavy emphasis on board prep. Optional masters. Gnathologically based. Good number of residents. Do lots of lab work but not all. Awesome relationship with other departments which are all top in their fields (great OMS and perio). Tons of patients. Dabbling in digital dentistry. Resident run.
- Cons: Few (2) faculty. Old facility (new school opening next year). Residents don't place a lot of implants. Limited high-end ceramics support.

Montefiore
-Pros: Stipend. New York. Excellent MaxFax exposure. Residents place a ton of implants (100+). Resident run didactics.
-Cons: 1 resident per year. No teaching. Implants are OMS-planned, not pros-planned. Was told by director that they have a hard time finding teeth to restore though there are plenty of implants.

I only interviewed at one other (VA Houston which is your typical VA program but with MD Anderson across the street) before I was accepted to UT and had to cancel my other interviews. I've heard that UNC is very strong and well-rounded. Tennessee is similar to San Antonio (in that it's a gnathological program) with awesome faculty and more implant surgical experience than we get. UIC is very implant-heavy. Baylor seems to be a decent program. Mayo has a well-defined curriculum but only 2 residents which is a HUGE negative. Plus it's 4 years. Nice stipend and nice name on your certificate. Probably a great education too but it's amazing how much you learn from your co-residents - only two would be tough. I don't know much about the west coast schools.

Ultimately, I chose UTHSCSA because I thought it would best position me to be a leader in the field. I don't want to just learn how to place/restore implants - I want to understand the oral system. And I feel like I'm getting precisely the experience I wanted.

Good luck with all your interviews! Let me know if you have any questions.

On NYU website they state that they have a Master of science program in biometerials which they encourage residences to do with their prosthodontics program.

Have they asked any scientific questions?
What did they ask you?

I have an interview next week but it seems like they invited a lot of candidates for interviews.

Good luck all

My understanding from speaking with several heavy hitters in the world of prosth

You didn't attach, what program are you referring to? I am assuming NOT Mayo, UCLA, or San Antonio. Many UCLA and Mayo staff have literally written the b0ok on prosth. San Antonio is also a solid program. UNC also has the previous head of Harvard as program director now, and they are definitely up and comers in the field.

Thanks. Applying to the ms in Biomaterials is a separated process... the program directors believes difficult to combine the certificate and the master. Even though I had interview with one of the 3 directors from the biomaterials department, he believes it is possible to combine both... If you have research experience you can be accepted in the mater with no problem.
I have presented 3 research posters in the last AADR, because of that the biomaterials director told me it is not a problem to be accepted.

Don't worry about the interview, they start asking about yourself, you can say severing you want, not really specific questions.

I got invitation from Louisville, Stony brook and Alamaba.

Do you know something about Rochester's interview process???
Thank you.

i was waiting UNC but i guess they did not invite me... i believe that at this time most of the schools already sent the invitations.
somebody knows about iowa ??
good luck guys

I think UNC will send their invitations at the end of the month. I applied to Iowa but have not heard from them. I will be in Louisville during those days. See you there.

Are there as many jobs available for a Prosthodontist compared to other specialists and GPs? Do most Prosthodontists that work in private practice even get that many referrals from GPs?

Sure there are jobs. There are also opportunities to open up your own practice because there are plenty of areas without any prosthodontists. Some prosthodontists get referrals while others don't - like any specialist you have to develop a referral base. Some of these referrals come from other specialists too - oral surgeons, orthodontists, etc.

Has anyone received any more invitations? According to this forum these schools have already sent invitations NYU, U Washington, USC, Rochester, West Virginia, Louisville, Ohio, UAB. Has anybody received an offer?

I have received an interview at both Memphis and Louisville. August 25 at Memphis and September 8&9 for Louisville. I have spent a decent amount of time at both and couldn't be happier to be at their interviews.

also stony brook is this week, and harvard was last week.

I just got the invitation from Loma Linda, the interview is on 9/21.

According to this forum these schools have already sent invitations:

Alabama, Baylor, Chicago, Georgia (GRU), Harvard, Iowa, Loma Linda, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, NYU, Ohio, Rochester, Stony Brook, USC,
Washington, West Virginia.

I bet many of us are waiting to hear from UNC, I do not think they have sent their invitations. May be by the end of the week. Good luck ladies and gentleman.

Add UNC to the list.
San Antonio also sent out their invites. I interviewed at Baylor on Monday, and met two people who were going to UNC the very next day for interviews. I was hoping to get some response from UNC by now considering its been a while..

Anybody have any tips about the financial aspect of prostho? Loans, locations with stipend, tuition waived etc? Really want to do prostho (it will probably be 2016) and am a foreign qualified US citizen. I am keen to keep loans down to a minimum (for obvious reasons...). Also any tips on applications etc? Thanks for any advice you all can give...
