I will be applying to surgery this year. Just a quick tip needed here how many characters should my surgery personal statement be? font sizes vary ...etc so it would be really helpful if anyone can tell me how long it should be in terms of how many characters/letters. Thanks

If you check you PS and print it out on ERAS it will show you how much of the page you have taken up. just type down to the bottom of the page. i think the rule is to not go over a page.

i think eras allows 23000 charecters or some crazy number like that..

hope this helps

In the ERAS format, a "page" is pretty long (>1 pg 12pt font double spaced). It's surgery; I'd keep it shorter.

I agree...what you say is much more important than length; but be succint. Do not ramble. Think bold confidence without arrogance; if you can tell a compelling story, so much the better. Avoid negatives/excuses/apologies unless something glaring needs to be explained (and you have a good explanation). Have someone in the department proof it for you; clerkship director is a good start.

Ever see what kind of notes surgery attendings leave in charts. Lucky to get even three words including the signature. Keep it short and to the point. Definitely < 1 page.
