I saw in this thread and in the other thread that some of you were considering writing to ACOM. I know you guys have good intentions and want to help this guy out but I strongly, strongly, encourage you all to think really hard about putting your name and reputation out there by writing emails and letters to this school on his behalf especially if you don't know him in person. It just seems like a really bad idea to attach your name to someone who potentially did something severe enough to have an acceptance rescinded. There is really no reason to get involved in something so serious and seems like really poor judgement.

But emails aren't an official form of communication and teh interwebz is not real life... so there shouldn't be any serious consequences 😉

I was willing to put my name on the line with ACOM.

But in all fairness, that's largely because I already have acceptances I would take ahead of them 😛

However, people have been reporting that ACOM's reply was to state that the decision was final. So I wound up not doing it.

FYI to people on here:

DO NOT contact the school in question. Honestly the particular school should not have been brought up. Regardless of the details of what happened there are only 2 possible outcomes:

1) You piss the school off by meddling in their affairs and it somehow comes back to bite you (if you were interested in the school)
2) you piss them off more than they are and they make it harder on the poster in question for further cycles. As bad as it is to keep this alive here, it is worse to keep reminding the school of the incident.

I am posting this because I was asked to, btw. In a nutshell, just do not get involved.

Nobody here actually believes that ACOM would reply to a random unsolicited email asking them to reconsider the decision, and then disclose private information regarding the situation to that random person, right?

Can anybody here tell me that they honestly believe that ACOM told Voldemort not to contact them, and then responded to a random inquiry about the situation with an unverified source like Do Fo Sho?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not buying it. Schools are required by federal law to maintain student privacy. Unless DO Fo Sho is more connected to the situation that just being "a classmate," there's no way he really got the email response he said he did.

Its Real. Sadly. ACOM is a set up to be a great institution and has set its standards very high. The OP made a serious error in judgement and for that he has payed the price. There are many lessons to be learned here and I feel there is no need to keep this thread going. Ive seen the letter, Its authentic, and this chapter in the OP's life should be allowed to end so he can move on.

He is actually barred from contacting the institution. However, I hope they allow him some sort of closure beyond the email just to give him some peace. I dont think Cole is a bad person, however, has shown a pattern of being extremely outspoken and abrasive with his comments. That coupled with his praise of ACOM and public acceptance to ACOM put the school and himself in a very precarious situation. The school made a decision and that's that. I think MedPr's epiphany says it all. Disagreements happen. We are all looking to become Doctors / professionals so why not start acting like professionals here in a public forum such as SDN.

@ court. Were classmates. I have no motives beyond trying to end the drama that this thread has become at Cole's expense (self inflicted) and ACOM's expense. Its unfortunate and its also undeniable. The only good thing I can see come out of this is that there actually wasnt a person maliciously trying to ruin someones holiday by sending a fake letter. Other than that it's an extremely unfortunate situation.

We get it, you think you're trying to protect your school's reputation by trying to kill this thread in the hopes that people will just forget about this situation. You're fighting a losing battle. This case is actually very instructive to current and future applicants and even some med students. Also this case is going to be brought up from now on as THE example of how your med school acceptance can be rescinded. The threads asking about it come up every year around february so it's only a matter of time.

There have been similar online incidents that MD adcoms have dealt with in the past (worse than this) and so this would not be THE example (for DO schools I am not sure). The one big mistake the person in question made was to post about it on SDN. Posting about it just made matters worse for him/her and drew unwanted attention.

im sure adcoms at other DO schools are already familiar with this case by now. considering Mr. X's stats, he is mostly limited to applying to DO schools. hopefully no adcom remembers his name when he applies next year
