HIHI,

I am applying this year. I haven't sent out my application yet, but soon. I am planning to take the DAT in Sept? Does anyone know if it is too late? THanks!!!

It's not "too" late, but it is late and will hinder your application. People will be interviewing before you even take the DAT.

If you are a strong applicant you should still be fine, but why take that chance?

I would recommend having your entire application complete at all schools by mid-August.

Good luck.

I dont think it is altogether that late...I took mine in late august and it didnt slow me down at all. Make sure everything else is in though. IMO, it is better to take it when you are ready and will perform at your best. Don't take the test and score lower just to get your app out there a little faster...unless, lower for you is 19+

Just make sure you get it in before Sep because thats usually when they start interviewing people. DAT score comes out right away and usually take about 1 wk to be sent to schools.

September is probably the latest that you can take the DAT. Just make sure you stay in contact with the school you apply to and you'll be fine. good luck!

No, it's not too late.

why don't you take it earlier. 3 months seems like an awfully long time to study for the DAT. 2 months is plenty.

jb!🙂

September is not too late, I know a few people in my dental school class that took the test in October or even November. If you have a high GPA and you do well on the DAT, when your submit your application doesn't matter as much. However, it would definitly help improve your chances if you get your DAT done sooner, ideally by mid August or earlier. While schools accept applications until January or later, most schools start reviewing applications at the beginning of August and start interviewing at the end of September / early October. Your application will not be reviewed by schools until everything is received, including your DAT, so the sooner you have everything done the better the chance of an interview and acceptance you will have. Interview slots may be open until February or even March, but the later your get everything in, the more competition you will have for fewer interview spots.

I think its too late. If you score a 30 on it I guess it isn't too late, but most people will be sitting in a interview while your sweating bullets on a computer. In fact some dental schools will have already decided on a few people... Take it sooner

I took it in sep, and i think it did hold back my app. Especially for the CA school, my interviews were a lot later, and i didnt even get an interview for UOP, even though i got 20+ on the DAT. I would say try to take it as soon as possible.

I took mine Aug 30th and I didn't get an interview at UoP either.

I took the DAT in mid October due to a relocation, etc., last summer. It was much later than would have been optimal, but I managed to get into school anyway.

The sooner you take that test the better.

Ditto. I took my Dat in late October. I consider myself VERY LUCKY for getting three interviews and acceptances of the 5 schools i applied to in cali. My DATS were in the 22-24 range. It was stressful as heck because all my interviews were for the very last spots, and I was pulled off of waitlists recently. What is your GPA like?

Send in your application as SOON as possible. Remember to do your academic update superfast too. Keep some correspondence with the schools you are going to be applying to.

sept is pretty late... you should try to take it before august is over. keep in mind that many schools have started interviews by then.
