Quality DO school vs low-tier MD school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey @Goro didn't we talk before about how if you have someone on ignore, you should keep their name out of your mouth? You know, being the adult?? You can make your point without needling someone, no matter how irritating you may find them. You're faculty for crying out loud. Baiting a resident on a message board in what I can only assume are attempts to get him to go off on you and be on probation or banned... For someone who claims to be from NYC there's more "passive" in your aggression than I have ever seen.

There's no user that I know of on SDN whose screen name is the one I referenced.

I also don't believe in bringing a knife to a gunfight, either.

Back to your regularly scheduled SDN thread!

Just wanted to ask if EM or Anesthesiology are particularly difficult to match for a DO student?
Also, not sure if 2020 will a bit normalize/diminish all this MD vs DO cat-fight (given that it gets better with every year)?

No, they are not. I mean if you are trying to match IVY EM or something, then yea, you will need to be a star. But I know people who have matched gas at legit MD residencies with sub-220 Step-1...As far as the future of DO/MD merger, I believe (and hope) that in the next decade or two, osteopathic schools will be on their way out and OMM will just become a fellowship.

Are you saying the merger is the first step toward DO schools disappearing -- as in, the existing schools with cease to exist?

I'm guessing he or she means it could be a step towards many DO schools becoming MD schools. I've read that there are some DO physicians who want this.

That sound you hear is the glass door cracking!

Who knows, maybe NYU IM is next????? If so, then cue the Meat Torpedo, gnashing and wailing of teeth.

Totally different name!

Really??? Seriously?? Well, thanks for teaching us all something about you, I guess. Enough derailing, then.

Thanks for your support. I am proud that the physician members of this community provide the most valuable and accurate advice based on their direct experiences and do so with the utmost honesty and professionalism.

This was a 2008 match list at HUMC. Even at a DO school like mine with perhaps a larger group of matriculated students with a higher MCAT compared to HUMC students will still likely never gain positions no even land an interview to the places above even with stronger USMLE scores. Why? I think we know the answer to that.

Doors will be closed choosing a DO school. HUMC would not.

But, that does not mean DO's cannot be highly successful.

I guess the MD title carries a lot of weight!
