Question about Integrated programs

In the example you have given, you will not be eligible for Board Certification in General Surgery.
There are no integrated or combined plastic surgery programs that lead to dual board certification. The 0+5 vascular integrated and 0+6 cardiothoracic integrated programs likewise allow one only to be certified for the respective primary certificate (although the vascular certificate is given by the ABS and the CT certificate is given by the ABTS).
There are several early specialization programs (ESP) that can lead to board certification in both. I believe the way they work is that one applies to general surgery at an institution that supports an ESP, and then track into the ESP later on in residency with the first year of fellowship replacing the chief resident requirements for GS. Those are the vascular 4+2 and cardiothoracic 4+3 models.

Honestly I don't know how many of these exist, although I know Northwestern at one time had accreditation for a vascular ESP, and rumor had it that UT Southwestern had the same. I've never heard of anyone actually completing one though. I imagine it'd be hard for a program to train someone for four years only to give them up to another division and leaving a hole at the chief resident level.

Well, spoke too soon. It looks like Wash U has enrolled 10 or so fellows into their vascular and CT surg ESP, but otherwise very few programs seem to even advertise its existence.
