Hi folks,

I've been a lurker for a few weeks, great deal of information and want to thank all of you for contributing and helping us pre-dentals in gaining knowledge about the process. I am currently finishing my undergrad, non-traditional student, former management professional; I was wondering what schools are more lenient in terms of not having all the pre-reqs completed?

I have a 3.9 GPA. I will have finished English 1/2 Chem 1/2 and Biol 1/2 Org 1 by the time I apply next year. My adviser told me that this is not enough pre-reqs for Dental schools to take me serious, even if I do well on the DAT. If you applied with these or less and got into Dental School, can you please tell me which school and how it went? I know I should have both Orgs finished because of the content on the DAT, but I'm willing to self study enough to get a good score.

I have a decent story, I worked as a hospitality manager throughout my life, I am high school drop out but received my GED; to be honest I've always considered myself to be academically inefficient, until I survived thyroid cancer and had a sort of an awakening about my life, dreams and aspirations. Enough of that though, thank you for reading my post and any guidance would be appreciated.

Generally, as long as you complete the pre-reqs before matriculating to dental school you are good. At least one school, (stony brook), won't accept you unless you have completed all pre-reqs prior to APPLYING. Also, if on the application through AADSAS (which you will use to apply to all schools, except for texas schools), if you indicate that you are planning on taking the rest of your pre-reqs before matriculating, and end up, say, dropping a required class in the following spring semester, schools have and can drop your acceptance. Hopefully this helps, I probably didn't do a great job communicating these few points lol.

Thanks for your write-up, you did well. I was nervous because of what my adviser told me. I guess I have to kill the DAT now. I'm a Texas resident but will be applying to a few out of state also!
