This is for the 240+ Step 1 crowd. Even if you are just leaning at this point.

List your top 3 choices for specialties in order. Let's see what specialities the top test takers are interested in applying.

For the 2005, 2006, and 2007 crowd post your specialty of choice right now.

1. Pathology (95% certain of this one)
2. Radiology (Interventional)
3. Anesthesia
UCSF, how's it going? Were you considering Ophtho at one point, or am I crazy?

Why isn't anyone talking about neurosurgery or neurology ? Let's be honest, as far as how much is known in the field, it is definitely the most challenging !
by the way, my friend with a 269...

1.) Cards
2.) Cards
3.) Cards

...think about it..some would argue its the most conceptually challenging field and requires the most thought...apparently everything else is too boring/easy/routine for him 🙄
i love the subtle, civilized, hostility on this forum.

this forum is the best!

As much info. as Pox tried to milk from SDN (including at least 10 PM's to me), I'd suggest crushed. 😀

Hey bigfrank, why are you the only person in the class of 2006 still reading the Step 1 forum as you are the fairy godmother providing solace to your children? Give it a rest buddy. Seriously. I have sent you perhaps 6 or 7 messages total and they were things such as...."what is the ISBN number of Appleton & Lange that you used" or "what books did you use for 3rd year?" and I never ever asked for anything that required more than a one-liner from you. I thank you for your advice on the forums but you are not the only person who knows what is going on. If I told you my Step 1 score, would that heal the bruise in your side that has been aching you for two months? You no doubt are a smart guy but I can see you like to instigate trouble and are afraid that someone else is ahead of you. I would bet you are one of those people that got jealous of the one person in your school who surpassed your score. I don't want you to be jealous anymore bigfrank.

I thought Pox and BigFrank got along. Why is BF attacking Pox? 😕

Pox is one of those tools who posts one nice, one mean, one nice, and then one mean post. I'm sick of it. No more pretenses. Pox, you didn't do as well as you'd hoped. No one really cares.

It is obvious you care because you keep BEGGING people to post their score.

Hmmm, I wonder why someone who took the exam LAST YEAR would care enough to start the "Official 2005 USMLE Step 1 thread......."

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=215684&page=1

The reason he posted the 2005 thread is because he is an egomaniac. Why else would someone care enough to start a USMLE score thread unless it compared to his score?

This guy is easy to nail. He considers everyone on SDN a tool. I admit I am not the easiest person to get along with on SDN, however I am UPFRONT with people. On the other hand, BF puts up "pretenses" (as he openly admitted) and fascades with people on SDN, but secretly laughs at people for being "tools". This is his subconscious coping strategy in medical school.

Hello? You're stock is going down. If this were Wall Street, your investors would be selling. Here's the facts...

1. Bigfrank is the only one that has repeatedly cared how I did on Step 1.
2. I have not said how I did on Step 1, besides that I did well and I am happy with my score.
3. If no one really cared, bigfrank's post would not have been recorded in SDN history right before this one.
4. I forgive you bigfrank. I'm sorry if I offended you by obstaining from being pompous and arrogant like many of our colleagues and retaining my modesty by not bragging about my score. Dozens of people have emailed me for help in their Step 1 preparation and I have never once bragged on myself for being better than I am.
5. I will continue to be a support and encouragement to anyone in need, bigfrank included. You are always welcome to ask for advice or just be a sounding board.
6. I'm going to "take the high road" and not let these types of insults pierce me. I know they were probably conceived in haste. No hard feelings, bf.

Things are going pretty well. I was enamored with Orthopedics during my surgery rotation last summer, but I'm not sure I ever made it known here on SDN (so you must be crazy 😉 ). Anyway, congrats on deciding on a specialty, it is a nice weight to have off your shoulders.

what makes you guys lean towards a certain specialty? is it the money, easy life i.e. 8-5, or something that sparked your interest during rotations? i would really like to knw!

I would hope most people decide what they want to do based primarily on interest, though $ and lifestyle come into play as well. If you work 9-5 and get 500 grand plus it doesn't matter if you hate what you do.

I hear surgery is a pretty laid back totally non intense profession.

Yeah, not quite, they've got a pretty malignant lifestyle. Sure there's money but goodluck finding the time to spend it! Anesthesia on the other hand is laid back.

If we ever played poker, you would lose everything that you own.
I assure you, even if you could, you wouldn't be able to afford it.

😀

1. Urology
1. Anesthesia (it's a tie)

Not considering anything else unless I have a peds epiphany.

Right now being almost finished with third year im thinking

1) ENT
2) EM
3) Medicine subspeciality (GI, Nephrology)

Me so happy,
I am the IM pappy,
Lord let everyone,
score over 241,
So I can rest,
and be the IM best,
without any risk,
coz I will score two-oo-six 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Wow, my critics/jealous whine-o's pull posts from 2004. I've actually posted into what specialty I'm currently applying a few weeks ago; radiology is an awesome specialty, but it wasn't for me. I'll let the tools on here figure that one out!!!

Pox, where is that score??? 😉 (or are you still taking the "higher road")

Congratulations matching into a specialty that "wasn't for me". 😀

1) Peds
2) Anesthesia
3) IM - Endocrine... or maybe EM?

I don't *really* know yet... I've only gotten 3 wks into my first rotation (surgery).

(1) ophtho
(2) ortho
(3) o_ _ tho (fill in the letters...i'm open it would seem to any career starting with "o" and ending with "tho")

1) Urology
2) Gas/SICU
3) Other surgical subspecialty
4) IM specialty - nothing against medicine I just like working with my hands

Too much talking: FP, Psych
Not enough talking: Path, Rads
Too boring: Derm
Not interested: PMR, OB/Gyn

Ooh my, it makes me nervous that there are so many Radiology picks on the list . . but then again, not too many that are the #1. I think it's the field for me - but I shant post my list, being that I don't know if my Step 1 qualifies yet 😉

either:
derm, em, or FP with a fellowship in sports med...
not sure yet and in no particular order

In no particular order at this point (just started 3rd year)

Ortho, Procedures-heavy IM specialty (eg Cards, GI), Surgery NOS
