Hi everyone,
So I was wondering what your stats were?
GPA, MCAT?
And the schools which accepted you and which one you are attending??

thanks for your time.

trying to gain a little clarity...

The CIB on AACOM has the averages and a lot of helpful information. Every year they go up but I'd say the mean GPA: 3.5 and mean MCAT around a 26 for this year.

I also don't think that the sample size will be anywhere close to the size needed to see any generalizable results. Not that there would be, anyway, considering the variation in GPA/MCAT at most schools.

Best case scenario, nobody adds any "data" to this thread.

Worst case scenario, the OP gets the most slanted view EVER about a few schools.

MCAT 25P
GPA 3.7 BCPM: 3.6
Accepted into LECOM at Seton Hill and WVSOM.
Rejected: VCOM.
Interviewing PCOM and Jefferson (MD) next week.

Most of the DO schools didn't care about my numbers. The MD schools did, but not DO.

I've had 5 interview invites for 8 schools that I applied to. I didn't pursue OUCOM once receiving the secondary. I haven't heard from UMDNJSOM, and I haven't sent any letters to NYCOM to be considered. I received interviews at CCOM, DMU, LECOM, PCOM, and VCOM. I interviewed at the last three and will be cancelling the first two. I'm waiting on word from LECOM and have been accepted to PCOM and VCOM.

I have similar stats, i got into PNWU and am waiting to hear back from KCUMB and am very optimistic.

I also agree, the schools i have interviewed with and talked to are way more interested in my extra-curriculars and medical experience and most importantly who i am as a person.

👍👍Makes me feel good. We have comperable numbers (although you may very well have much better ECs than me). Would you go to LECOM cause its 27K opposed to the 40K that PCOM is?

3.5
25P
applied to 16 schools, got 10 interview invites so far
2 waitlists, 1 acceptance (so far)
i have LOTS of clinical experience

good luck!

No. I loved the people and area that LECOM is in. For some reason my gut feeling was you won't be as happy here as VCOM or PCOM. I think I'm going to PCOM, but am still deciding.

ECs:

Have done a lot of student life/admissions stuff. Orientation leader for 3 years. This past summer I was co-coordinator with another student.

I have been in ACS and Student Government since freshmen year.

I did 3 alternative spring breaks, one that was life altering... wrote about it in my PS.

Shadowed a DO for 60 hours over the summer... She wrote an excellent letter, I believe. She was really passionate about me going into medicine and also going to her Alma Mater, PCOM. Also wrote about this in my PS.

So, my extra currics aren't out of this world, but they hold some weight I'd say.

GPA: 3.53
MCAT: 22N (messed it up, on practices I was getting near 30's...oh well)
A lot of EC...
Got 3 interviews so far: WVSOM, LMU-DCOM, VCOM.

Interviewed at WVSOM and got accepted...going there. Checked out LMU-DCOM, liked it, but not as much as WVSOM. Canceled my VCOM interview.

I think I'm going to PCOM, but am still deciding.

You KNOW you need to come to VCOM

Dont make me come up there and hurt you.....

I think SDN stats are always skewed a bit. Even though the DO forums are MUCH more relaxed than pre-allo, we still tend to be on the higher side of the curve.

If you must know, I have a 3.33 cum and a 27 mcat (i'm on the lower end) with crazy amounts of shadowing, research, president of a major club, 2 study abroad programs, tutoring, lots of leadership stuff, IM sports, lots of traveling aside from study abroad, big brother/big sister, raised about 15,000 dollars for something, humane society and volunteered at a free clinic..and helped take care of my dying grandmother. I also have a non-science major, which seems to help.

Applied a lot of places, crickets from quite a few but I haven't been very much into following up. 5 DO interviews and 2 MD (coming up): 2 Acceptances (NSU and LECOM-B), Highwaitlist (Touro-CA), and Two Rejections (KCOM and AZCOM)

Seems like KCOM and AZCOM are all about grades and your living location then instead of looking at the overall-person. You have great EC. A lot of the time it's luck as well.

I completely agree with that comment about AZCOM. It really shut me off that school.

but back to the main point of this thread (even though it will be skewed by SDN premeds...which are basically the cream of the crop.
I got invited to Western, ATSU-SOMA, AZCOM, and Touro-CA with a 27-S MCAT score (and 3.65 cGPA / 3.82 sGPA). I have weird ECs that probably make me stand out a bit too. And I'm a non-traditional applicant (graduated more than two years ago). It's all on my MDapps page. I also got invited to 2 MD schools (FIU and Creighton) with that 27-S (and 3.58 cGPA / 3.42 sGPA).

I am also participating in the medical minority applicant registry and this heavily increases my odds as well. I will not go into the debate on this...I'll just let you know that some people consider it a controversial topic.

I improved the MCAT to a 31-Q and have been invited to interview with Nova, Loyola, George Washington University, and Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Make sure you visit each school's individual website to get the latest information on the previous class profile in regards to GPA and MCAT. These values have been steadily increasing for the DO programs and what you may have heard two years ago is no longer relevant.

By the way, I was told that if you are good enough to recieve an interview, then you are good enough to be accepted to that school. It just depends on who you get as an interviewer and how you handle the situation.

I grew up in a very rural area and am a resident of a very very rural area. Also, my gpa is low but it is virtually all from the first year and a half. I had a 3.95 my last two years, so I think it was just the luck of the draw and the day. Thinking back on KCOM, I was a complete idiot. I was honest and mentioned something that questioned my integrity greatly like I was asked, but it didn't put me in a positive light. I wound up with roommates that were very heavily into drugs and it was a rather precarious situation. Its ok, I'm not too crushed. It stings but a school in Florida was what I really wanted and I have that so far!

I also agree with Matt about the interview and being good enough thing. They obviously see something in you. If the grades were that much of an issue, they wouldn't waste time interviewing you. They get thousands of applicants...something makes you stand out. The key is isolating what they like about you and driving that home. Sometimes you choose the wrong point. At Bradenton they made it obvious, PBL is their thing. My experience with PBL and leadership training were huge focus points for me.

I agree that SDN members are a small sample of the application pool.

I consider myself a weak applicant - 3.4cum 3.12sci - 28P. I have some of the basic ECs - volunteer/shadow - as well as non-trad EC -worked on films. No research. I am also a very non-traditional student - graduated 3 years ago with a film degree.

I have received 8 interview invites: passed on 3 (Lecom-B, Lecom-E, ATSU-SOMA), accepted to all 4 of the ones I attended (Touro-CA, Touro-NV, Nova, and AZCOM). I have one interview left at Western.

Without a doubt I think the greatest advantage was applying early... And I seriously doubt I would have applied early if it had not been for spending time on this addictive and compulsive forum.

I really don't think there is a way to predict where you will get it. There are just too many uncontrollable factors...The big one being the adcom. There is just no way of knowing what they will think of you.

Must have been a lot of secondary apps! I applied to 10 DO schools and that was a busy secondary-essay time hehe

I applied to 6 DO schools. Interview invites @ 4, done 2, passing on Touro-CA, holding off on CCOM and hoping for PCOM. Accepted @ 2 (Western and UMDNJ). I'm on the higher end of the bell curve for GPA and MCAT, but I met many students with similar stats @ Western.

Another part that needs to be added to the stats is when were you complete before you got your interview invite.

I'm sort of going crazy here having heard nothing from any school yet. I was waiting for a late MCAT score (retaken) so that may have caused adcoms not to look at my application. My stats now are highly competitive with what each of you posted and still nothing. Should I be concerned that this late score (though much improved) is holding me back from any interview invites?

I think we might be twins

You didn't see the 26 MD schools I applied to 😉

But DO wise, I'm really only worried about PCOM. I haven't been notified of completion yet. Wish I had finished my app earlier. But I am in at the 2 I interviewed at so far. YAY.

Were you applying DO just to increase your chances? You have a pretty solid app, imo.

I was applying to DO because I have some personal experience in OMM type treatment (as a PT patient) and my gf is a DPT. Location is important to me as well. Honestly, my top choice happens to be an MD school, but my ranking of schools is interlaced with MD and DO programs. I also applied DO because of a tendency to appreciate non-trads a bit more than some of the MD schools I applied to.
