Question on Physiology Class Prerequisite

Hi all,

I am in the process of preparing my schedule for the next semester. I will apply to dschool next semester also. I notice some schools require Physiology. At my school we have a class called Human Anatomy and Physiology and then another called Animal Physiology. I could get credits towards graduation for the Animal Physio class and not the Human Anatomy class. For the schools that requirement physiology, does it matter which one I take?

Your school ties anatomy and physio together? Do you really need the extra credits toward your major? You will be working on/learning about humans, not animals. I would lean toward taking the more pertinent courses. Sure, animals and humans are rather similar, but there will be noticeable differences. To answer your questions, my guess is that the school would want a regular human physiology, but its possible that any physio may fly. What schools actually require physio though?

I know for UMKC, one of the schools I applied to, that they required physiology, and they told me that if I take the human anatomy and physiology class that I needed to take two semesters of it plus the associated cadaver labs. So I did this, but it counted towards my degree as a biology elective. I definitely recommend this class. Animal physiology is a good class too, but it will go into more than just the human physiology and does a lot with animals besides humans, which is more beneficial for like a veternarian. So I recommend human anatomy and physiology, since it will help you more during dental school as well. But your schools animal physiology may be different then mine. Talk to your advisor and see what they say. Good luck.

I was looking at ASDOH. They require physiology. The human anatomy and physiology class at my school does not count towards biology electives.
