I like to give functions to specific characteristics of certain anatomical features of the human body and I was going through head and neck anatomy to get ready for the boards. so, I passed by a piece of information which won't come on the boards but yet still needs an answer for my own sake... Why is the internal table of the bones of the skull brittle (more brittle than the external one)? Does this serve any particular need or function to the human brain and its safety?
thanks ...

It makes sense if the outside is more brittle it's more liable to break ...
