hello, I am a IMG (but US citizen) graduate student. So, i have no choice but to apply for observership to different programs or through paid services. My question is how many residency programs don't count them as USCE. is LOR obtained from doing these observerships have no value?

what else can i do beside these to gain USCE? how can get those "hands on" experiences?

Thanks is advance for help.

If you have already graduated, look into doing "Externships". Those are more hands-on and you can obtain real LORs from them.

How much do these observerships cost? Externships cost?

Is it like $500 for observership and $2500 for externships and $5000 for externships with LOR?

Most are around $2000 regardless of whether they are externships or observerships.. I have yet to come across any agency that charges lesser than $1000.

some of it is the liability, if the experience lets you do any patient contact then there's malpractice insurance coverage for them to worry about

For a one month externship? Liability/malpractice insurance should be a very small piece of that pie. It doesn't cost that much for medical students.

I had gone the agency route with medclerkships. I can say I was not disappointed with the price I pay. From the moment I contacted them I was able to speak to a physician assigned to me. The coordinating team also handled me with professional approach and clarity. Then I was also offered assistance with my personal statement and CV.
