Just a disclaimer - I have searched the forum and read a couple of threads regarding the subject, but I had some more in-depth specific questions I felt weren't really answered. (I'm on dial up though and can't read everything so I apologize if I missed something.) 👍
I'm currently a junior pre-medical student, trying to get an idea of what schools I would like to apply to next year. Tulane right now is at the top of my list because of their MD/MPH&TM program. I'm looking for advice on some other schools to apply to though that offer similar programs...? I have taken a look at Regression's Spreadsheet of CEPH-Accredited Schools of Public Health & Departments, and this may be a stupid question - but when a school indicates it has a dual MD/MPH (without the specialty noted like Tulane's MPH&TM) are you still able to have a concentration within the MPH even though you are also obtaining your MD? I just figured that since you would be obtaining two degrees you might have less time to have a specific focus in the MPH. 😕 The concentration in Global Health is what I'm really looking for in a school, although, I would be welcome to any other suggestions on useful concentrations. My goal is to ultimately practice overseas once I graduate.
Second question - I know that for Tulane's MD/MPH&TM program you start your MPH&TM the summer before you start medical school. I'm interested in Tulane's Time Out program because I'm considering serving in the Peace Corp once I complete undergrad. I know it says the medical school will defer your admission, but what about the school of public health? [This question might be better suited for a phone call to Tulane, but I thought it wouldn't hurt mentioning it.]
Third question - do most schools accept your MCAT scores for their MPH programs as well? I would just prefer to not take the GRE if I don't have to.
Thanks!
