Hello everyone. I'm currently preparing for the MCAT by first looking at overlying concepts for each section, going thorugh all the concepts, and focusing on topics which I have some trouble with. This is very fundamental preparation since I plan to take the MCAT in the spring of 2016.

I was hoping to ask some of you, who are just about to take the MCAT 2015 or have already taken it, about the best way to prepare for the Sociology portion. I have not taken any sociology courses yet; however, I have taken multiple psychology courses. Should I try to fit in a sociology course before the MCAT or will studying from the prep-books be enough?

Also, I have heard from numerous people that Biochemistry is heavily emphasized on this exam. Should I study for biochemistry more than the biology section or split it evenly?

Thank you for your response and your time.

For sociology, taking a sociology course is not necessary, because you will learn many things not tested on the MCAT. Within the Psychology/Sociology Section, only 30% is sociology, so it does not cover all of the concepts taught in a sociology course. If you learn all of the concepts on the Khan Academy Sociology section and understand them in depth you will be fine. Another thing to keep in mind is that this section is heavy on data interpretation so make sure to review that and work on many practice passages if you are weaker in that area.

In terms of biochemistry, it would be good to split these up evenly. Also, emphasize physiology and organ systems within biology. Make sure you can recognize the amino acids and have the three letter and one letter abbreviations memorized as well.
