Is it okay to apply and take the MCAT later (december), will it affect my chances at getting accepted? I am going to apply to all the schools (september) but I want to specifically get into Scholl, DMU or AZpod. My GPA is a 3.3 cumulative with a 3.6 GPA over the last 3 years ( my first two years sucked (2.7)) cumulative Science and non Science is a 3.2 and 3.4, Ive demonstrated an upward trend throughout my college career. EC's include Emergency Medical Technician, and rehabilitation worker/volunteer for an Agency dealing with people with disabilities, Im going to be observing podiatrists in Canada soon.....Any suggestions or thoughts?????

It's definitely okay to apply. I can't say for DMU and for AZPOD because I didn't apply there, but at Scholl I don't think they will consider your application until your MCAT scores are in. Your GPA sounds competitive and with a 23-26 on your MCAT you should be a shoe in (get it? shoe in.... podiatrist).

Also you need to have a letter of recommendation written by a podiatrist, so make sure you have that as well.

I'm not saying that you should do this, but I applied really late in January interviewed in February and was accepted by March. So applying late isn't the end of the world, but make sure and get your application in early for scholarship purposes.

Thankx for the reply, What about conditional acceptances? would I have a shot at getting conditional acceptance to these schools? what schools did you apply too, and what did your application look like?

I received a conditional acceptance from Scholl without an MCAT. I interviewed and everything and during the interview they said my stats looked good and I should receive a conditional acceptance staying what MCAT score I needed in order to get in. So my advice would be to apply early, I can only imagine applying early can help your chances and give you a better idea of where you might get in before you take the MCAT.

sorry to ask......How do my stats look? do I have a shot at these schools or should I not waste my time.........everyone says that these schools are the harder ones to get into?

AZPOD is competitive. It really doesn't cost that much more to apply to ALL of the schools, just in case your first choice falls through for whatever reason. :luck:

I think ur fine with ur stats......just make sure: to shadow a podiatrist and get a LOR from him/her, at least 2 LOR's from ur teachers(science preferably), do well on the MCAT, and apply before April 2009.

Also, look up the specific schools and look at their admission stats/profile so that u can get a good idea of what gpa/mcat they're specifically looking for.

not necessarily screwed....but you may want to think about professional school if you cant get a 20 on the mcat...

ah yes very true, well im tryin to raise it a couple points...proving harder than expected-man I hate that test but I guess I'm finding it harder to study and stay motivated than I thought for the second time around. 🙁

😕
SO if I have a 19 im screwed then?

Scoring a 19 on the MCAT is pretty bad....did you even study for the MCAT? I just don’t understand how a person with a GPA of 3.77 can score a 19. It sounds like you didn’t study/prepare for the MCAT or you just have not gained the knowledge to take the MCAT. Sorry if I sound harsh.

The higher your score, the more schools will likely accept you, and the more options you'll have to end up near your girlfriend. Since that's something you say matters to you a lot, use that as study motivation.

maybe you should just break up with your significant other....that's always an option haha

But seriously - you and your girlfriend will always have to be looking out for that stuff. What about residency? You will have to find places close to one another that you both get accepted to.

I would think it would be really hard to deracinate your own life, let alone do it with two people, living together, and competing for the same spots. But, what do I know?

j0ez0r,
Are you in DMU? if so how hard is it to get in? and do you think I have competitive stats, DMU is my first choice for pod school, do you think I can get a conditional acceptance if I apply in september and take my MCAT in december? Im going to be shadowing pods but I found out they work really really odd hours here (I live in canada) -most of them work on tuesdays from 9 till 4 !!!! so it may be a small challenge to get good observation hours in before I apply....... thankx Dan

yeah im a first year here at DMU....id say the admissions are definitely on the upper tier...its hard to say what gpa you would need in september without an MCAT to get an interview. In my case i had all documents turned in by mid september..i would think you would need a pretty decent gpa without an mcat to get an early interview date... hth
