Hey everyone!

I have a quick scenario for you. I am a third year medical student interested in rads. My grades are ok (mostly HP's, some H's, a couple P's) and my Step 1 was average (219). I think that I will do well 3rd year (I am better with the clinical courses), founded the Radiology Interest Group at my school, have done research, and am reasonable sure that I can get some decent LORs. I was wondering how important first 2 years grades are and how important Step 1 is? I am not going to apply to any top tier programs, just local programs here in my home state. Any chance for me or have I already failed the numbers game? Anyone out there in my place that matched or interviewed?

THanks

welcome to the club, 'buddy'. most people are asking the same questions. i think you're probably ok, but i'm no expert, just from gathering info.

i think you'll hear the usual things:

step one score is top (219 is 'not' bad but not stellar)
clinical grades are 2nd (probably just as important as step 1)
preclinical grades are 3rd (probably not that important unless you had all H)
LORs probably 4th (you need excellent letters)
research - this helps if all things are equal, but probably won't make or break you

anyway, those are my thoughts, you'll get better things from experts here
