On paper Emory should be one of best programs to train in country. One of first in world to do breast IMRT. To abandon traditional simulator in favor of pure CT sim. To do linac based SRS. Coronary brachytherapy (not that it panned out). Large city with diverse rotation experiences including good peds experience and now protons. If Drew is sorta not Emory: perhaps good as resident says.

The reputation 7-8 years ago is that Emory worked residents Very, very hard. Glad to hear that that's no longer the case. I want to clarify that I simply stated what the reputation had been. Gen X was basically after the boomers but before 1981, I'm a young Gen Xer. I believe some people call the folks born between 81-90 "Gen Y" and pretty much everyone after that is a millennial.

Gen Y = millennial. The term Gen Y was coined first but was later replaced by millennial. However, surveys have shown that those born in the early 80s often do not identify with millennials.
I was actually thinking about this last night. I don't know how to use bitcoin, but my understanding is that it's impossible to tell where it came from. I can figure it out, and I'm sure others would as well.
I will gladly send over the $200 lifetime donation if you can figure out a bitcoin payment option.
It's sad state that our field is so vindictive and bent on doxxing that I'm afraid to even attach my name to a donation. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but watching what happened immediately to Simul and others going back to what was said about Shah, I don't think I'm that unreasonable.

What happened to Simul wasn't exactly eye opening as I've seen this happen to ROs in the workplace. But to have it occur on a public forum is mind boggling. Academic medicine is hierarchical, there's no way to out-rank these individuals. Is this how it's always going to be?
Yup. I used a Gameboy with spinach colors and my first cell phone was a brick. I see millenials as those who were teens when the first smartphones came out, after things like Nirvana and napster etc

YUP. A combination of their own grads, lateral moves from other top cancer centers (experienced people), and new top places graduates.
DM and his napoleon complex is pretty sad/funny (basically the rad onc equivalent of "angry bagel guy", just look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about lol). VA docs are generally pretty sub-par, not surprising it attracts such low quality of individual.

The funny thing about that is the people involved are all in a better spot. That VA is UPENN affiliated and the guy is in a better spot now. It all happened under Steve Hahn, I believe too. I remember the "failing NY times" was all over it. The media LOVED the story. Very bad look for our field and the reason to this day that brachytherapy is completely DEAD at the VA system for a few exceptions. It currently attracts some of the most low energy people in rad onc or other unemployable docs for whatever reason.
I’m sure there’s some explanation, but it took 20 years to get from college freshman year to board eligible (without a PhD), including stops at three different med schools, not matching at home program nor any of the externship places, taking a academic job and getting shunted from there to the VA.
Maybe a criminal record? Very interesting factoid. Maybe someone should not be questioning people's mental health online, perchance?

Simul signed off twitter. I think most hospitals these days have social media "codes of conduct" and Simul was probably told off for that spat that he had with Drew M. Unless you're in a position where your livelihood isn't threatened by social media it's always best to be careful.

But yes, to clarify earlier, DM is not in Emory leadership. He is at their VA, and as stated above by an Emory resident, has a relatively small role in the EMory residency program.
Let's stick with the issues of the man himself, not the institution (Emory, not the VA) that employs him.
Again, there is no courage is protecting the status quo and offering milquetoast “solutions” that don’t upset your dept chair, but keep patting yourself on the back, KO. Surely brand awareness and positivity will solve all RO issues.
why i do not tweet. Just seems like a way to give vindictive people (plenty in RO) a tool to screw you. It is such a bad look for our field. People saying go ahead and post and engage people and All they do is be vindictive and crush dissent. This is why SDN will be even more important because sycophants will just agree with eachother.

They are trying will be up to RRC. i know at least one southern program has already applied to start a residency program. How much they can “block” remains to be seen.

Programs opened since 2005 with number of approved residency spots. I've heard through the grape vine but with no direct knowelge that Penn State has been looking to open a residency for the past couple of years.

UCSD, USF (Moffitt), and UTSW are very very strong. UCSD is a top 15 program, easily.
Mayo Arizona and Jacksonville have good tech and share education with the mothership, which clearly has some benefits to it.
I can not in good conscience recommend any of the others.

I don't know if A and M is taking residents anymore and we know Drexel is dead and buried. I think MCG dead too.
MCG and Drexel are dead because the main hospital is closing unless Christiana Care plans to Open their own? MS has not taken anybody in match in years, are they even a program anymore?
