Radiology 2012 applicants

all three of those are basically the same thing lol

Not really. The last 2 are pretty much the same but "ranked to match" has different meanings to different people.

Some consider ranked to match to mean they have 10 spots and you're in their top 10. Others use it when they have 10 spots and they consistently go to at least 30 to fill and you're in their top 30.

I've heard plenty of stories of people getting the "ranked to match" call from their #1 and not matching there.

Ive only gotten

"Wed be lucky to have you"

"You would be an exceptional fit..."

"I really hope to see you here in 2 yrs"

All mixed in withvsomethong personal wr talled about looks like you guys are having beyter luck than me

I mean, I think you should take all of these communications with a large grain of salt in any case. The wording isn't that important, no matter what they say, it could certainly not be true. That being said, the statements have been generally worded like "we've made our final rank list and you were ranked #x (where x < # spots)" or "received our highest ranking" etc.

One thing you can (and should) do, is talk to your dean and/or PD about past post-interview communication. My dean told me that certain programs had contacted past students in a certain way and those students all matched there. He also told us some programs promised things that didn't pan out, so I think it's certainly program dependent.

I agree with the sentiment that you really don't know until Match Day and shouldn't get too excited over any communication. But the first statement you mentioned would carry a bit more weight in my book than a "ranked to match" statement. Of course it wouldn't change my list or anything.

Personally this discussion is just academic as I received no calls or emails of this nature.

Give it time. I bet people start hearing more from programs next week. Also, certain programs are known for sending stuff out while others are not (ex: Emory has in the past).

Not holding my breath. I doubt I'll be ranked to match at any of my top choices.

I guess you're right.. but there was no mistake with my phone call. It was not careful wording.

Speaking of emory, that was a weird email they just sent out.

I was confused by it at first and then I couldn't recall getting any GME stuff on the interview day like at other programs so it made sense.

I wouldn't worry about not getting calls yet, a lot of programs are having their rank meetings next week; maybe they will call applicants then. Several notable programs said they don't do post-interview contact (Penn, UTSW, and a few others were discussed previously).

Be careful PokerDoc. Even if it was completely unambiguous, the sad truth is that some programs lie. It may not be intentional (ie it may have been true when they called), but you should not assume you will match at that program if you fall to your #3.

Make sure you still rank any program that you would be willing to go to, even if they would be in your #4, etc spots. People have been burnt in the past by taking a program at its word and having to scramble.

im ranking all 15.. even with that call.. im not dumb enough to not even rank all the places i went to.. the logic doesn't make any sense to me to do it any other way...

I would honestly rather scramble than go to my #15, but im still ranking it cuz i dont wanna deal with that.

I'm honestly getting kind of excited for you guys. It is undoubtedly stressful (which I will know better next year), but there is so much energy and anticipation with it as well.

Good luck with the countdown. 😉

Still really nervous, cuz I haven't heard from anyone. 🙁

Me neither but I'm not worried about it. Many programs don't engage in such behavior and it's hard to know how many RTM emails/calls each program is doing. You can obviously match at a good place w/o receiving RTM comm.

It will all work out in the end. I doubted myself and was freaking out pre-MSPE because I only had a few invites and the group here told me to relax and that the invites would come. They did and I have confidence the process will continue to work out for everyone. Really strong group on this site. 👍

yeah i dont think the silence means anything.. my #1 and #2 havent said anything to me.. but I'm not really interpreting that as meaning much.

Yeah there's the programs who explicitly state they don't engage in post-IV comm and I'm sure there's many others who don't w/o stating it.

There's enough anxiety associated with this entire process where one shouldn't get worked up over this. The hard part (Step 1, grades, getting letters, the interview trail etc) is over.

I wouldnt worry about it. Many programs don't send out post-interview communication and even if you get it, it doesn't mean that it's true. I've heard from a few programs but it isn't affecting my rank list at all, so it doesn't matter much.

AM is so funny right now!

The reviews usernames are funny
Reviews
Not reviews
Reviews reviews
Reviewest

I'm waiting on a "The Reviewest of them all" username

I don't know what's funnier, notreviews vs Grandpa, or Chosen1 bumping a thread (and replying to himself) saying that rads residency is as hard as surgery and OB.

AM is ridiculous!! The anonymous usernames are ruining everything.

Oh well, some interesting info. Are y'all's match lists done?

Pretty much. Still thinking about it and I may switch 1 or 2 programs in the middle of my list around or I may not. No major changes though.

Sat down today and figured out my supplemental lists as well.

struggling with programs 2, 3 and 4, but the rest of my list is done

I've saved my rank list but haven't certified yet.

What exactly happens when you certify? I was under the impression you can't really change it once you certify. Based on the posts here, I'm guessing I was wrong about that.

Certifying just means your list can be used by the Match. Your status changes from ranking to certified and it's the only thing you have to do to participate in the match. You can change it. Everytime I've changed my list I've certified it.

If you think your list is final might as well ceritfy it now. That way you don't have to worry about going back in to certify when it's closer to the deadline and the site might be slower.

theres really zero reason to not certify it right now.. theres only 2-3 more days until the list is closed. and if you for some crazy reason forget to certify it between now and then, or a snow storm knocks out your power.. you cannot match.

you can edit the list and recertify it as many times as you want to before the deadline.

Deadline isn't for another week but I agree with your sentiment

Yeah, some pretty enlightening discourse going on over at AM. I had no idea that the University of South Alabama was such a top program, or Cook County.

lol I didn't know what you were talking about until I read that Match List thread. First 10 or so posts on that thread are legit, then it just gets out of hand like usual on AM. It's a free for all over there right now.

I've been avoiding reading anything over there lately because all I seem to see is, "Can anyone tell me about program X?"

Reviews: "It is a GREAT program. The PD is super nice. They give you hundred dollar bills just for walking in!"
Reviews: " That program blows and is in a terrible area. I would never go there. On our interview day, I saw the PD beating a puppy!"
Not reviews: "I'm a resident there and I disagree."
SomeOtherGuy: "Do they really beat puppies?"

This is an example of what's going on there now.

Some dude's list:

DMC
Wayne State
Cook County
Harbor-UCLA
Gap
Gap
The rest below are garbage!
MGH
UTSW
UCSF
MIR
PENN
BWH

Yeah match season is the worst time to go over there. There are a few legit regular posters who do admit their biases but the combo of anonymous user names and no moderation make it troll central.

If you have any questions about programs just PM one of us.

Maybe I'm just gullible, but I actually believed the guy on AM who said he was ranking USA over MGH. I've met some people from the South on the interview trail who simply refuse to go anywhere with the possibility of snow.

This sounds like a very silly question..but what on earth is "AM" ??

My favorite were like the 20 troll lists that were totally different except having uchicago last.

haha yea, I saw that. Chicago programs seem to be a favorite of the AM trolls. Just based on the last month or so, I would say the most trolled programs and the gimmicks that are often used include...

1) NW & UChicago - "low tier programs" and who could forget "Uchicago >>>>>>> >MGH"
2) Duke, Wake, Mayo, insert strong program in BFE location - "nothing to do but mammo in boonies" "you will remain single forever"
3) UTSW vs. anything. - "UTSW > anything "
4) Emory - "Grady is a hell hole"
5) Hopkins, MIR, Penn, etc. - "Your city is a dump" and "heard the PD was disappointed with the caliber of applicants that interviewed there this season. "

The one, the only, auntminnie med student forums...abandon all hope ye who enter here.

Summed up quite nicely.

Add in

"If your program doesn't have multiple world renowned leaders in every subspecialty it sucks"

"You cannot get laid anywhere but the coasts and Chicago and maybe Dallas"

Also the classic arguments with no facts. "A > B" then "I disagree. B>>> A" (I used more >'s so I win)

All of my programs are in city with hot women.. /troll /butnotreallyijustlovebeautifulwomenmorethanagoodeducation

The single thing always got me. I'm sure there are at least a couple of single people that are also going to match at the program. With MIR, they act as if you are more likely to be robbed and stabbed in the face before finding a date or having any enjoyment in St. Louis. I've been there multiple times. If you aren't an idiot, it is a very nice town with plenty to offer.
