Fortunately the MCAT sciences are easy to crack. And some people here know how to completely decode them! *cough* Ana *cough*
with the mean mcat in this thread at mid to high 30's you should just become better at the mcat by osmosis.
and with that being said, i dont think it worked on me

The Texas match is next week and I feel bad for the people waiting on the match. It's such a stressful thing and I think they're beginning to freak out 🙁
is the texas match different from the regular match?
im thinking of the regular match day in med school when everyone in the whole country finds out where they are going for 3-5 years

Oh yeah I'm the only one in this thread who was able to "decode" the MCAT  Whatever, Smarty McSmartpants. 😛

Meg: Don't get discouraged! You can do this! You're going to do so well, you'll see 😀

How did you not have to use the TX match?

Because they just started pre-match offers this year and I got offers to the two schools that I was trying to decide in which order to rank. I'm still technically going through the match (had to rank schools) but I ranked UT-H number one so I know who I'll match with on the day of.

You're thinking of residency match and no, Texas does that just like everyone else.
But we also have a match system for our state medical schools (all schools in Texas excluding Baylor). Before this year everyone had to wait til Feb to find out what state med school they go into after ranking them in a program just like residency.

Megboo and Pinguin and Mushy too,

You guys will be fine with the beast. Even the best of the best freak out. I mean look at Ana and Brett and even Q for that matter all had uncertainty after they left the test. The others too.

Its a lot of work but if you start out with a 27 on diag one like Meg and Mrs. Antarctic bird/cookie baker did, then you'll have no problem pulling it up.

I posted this elsewhere but a lot of people get a 10 pt increase with most people I know maxing out at 12-14 points higher then first diag. Starting with a late 20's score shows the potential to do higher. What you need to do is identify why you are missing certain things constantly and work on improving those areas and review solutions to everything both right and wrong as you do practice material. Pace yourself and be confident.

You two are smart cookies and you'll do fine. 😀

The sciences are easier to pull up because they can be studied for to a certain degree and because its easier to interpret data charts and graphs then to interpret some long boring obscure verbal passage. Just stay calm as hard as it sounds.

so you don't know where you're going just that you're going somewhere?
but im presuming that there's no scramble?

No - it's different this year. I know I'm going to my first choice because they accepted me before the match. It's all changed this year and it's more confusing than it ever was.

There is a "scramble" in a sense. You are still placed on a waitlist at every school above where you matched (unless you matched at your #1) so they'll be pulling people off the waitlist all summer. I've heard a rumor that there is very little waitlist movement in Texas though because we do have a match system. Most of the movement comes from people turning down the state schools because they got into Baylor.

You Texas are so unique.

So I was looking through anatomy stuff (my dad got me netter's flashcards- don't judge. Not my idea) and I think I might actually like anatomy.

I feel dirty now.
:meanie: :meanie:

Welcome to the Dark Side. We don't have cookies but we do have copious quantities of booze. 👍

And btw, I always preferred the Gray's anatomy flash cards. +2

Ooooo...  😉

I like the netter cards because they have origin, insertion and what innervates the muscles... I think that's nice though it's almost like Latin to me at the moment

I told my dad I thought I liked anatomy and now I think he thinks he's winning. ("I'm going to make a surgeon out of you yet") My mom is just happy that I won't be miserable in gross next year 🙂

Misery is dissection of the peritoneum. Just you wait.

You're scaring me.

I can't think of anything med school course related right now. All my brain power is being used up by %$%'ing physics.

Best quote in that article:
"Not only that, getting up early is also more likely to lead to muscle aches, cold symptoms, headaches and significantly worse moods."

No f*cking kidding? Wow
gotta love the bbc for always pointing out the obvious

People suing about the MCAT? Give me a break!

Welcome to America!!! The place where people sue for any and everything just because they CAN!! A lot of times in the name of greed more then the name of any substantial reason. Regardless of the screw up, it happened across the test so everyones score would be easily adjusted to account for it. I don't think it will make that big of a difference as people are trying to make it out to be because they'll throw out that passage and base it on the others.

Furthermore, there are more chances now because the MCAT is more times a year. Finally, these people can go and get a refund and take another administration of it if they felt that the screw up will hurt them significantly. That's just my opinion.
