 See I can't say that. Because if it was Greek then I have no excuse for not knowing it.

Yeah my friends give me crap about that so I have to say, "That's like Latin to me" - seriously, they thought it was the funniest thing ever to harass me everytime I'd say that.

Greek high five! 👍

studying?!?!!? i wish i could just study ana. 🙁

this new team im on delegates a lot more stuff to the 3rd year students. today i had to go talk to pathologists, call 2 different social workers, spend 30 minutes on the phone waiting for some radiology secretary so that I could prioritize one of my patients CT scans...... etc, I guess its part of the training but it really is like a full time job. i spent 9 hours in the hospital today post call and now have to study for an EKG exam this thursday, sucks. its internal medicine though, this rotation is supposed to be a bear no matter where it is. it just sucks that its gotten worse this last 2 weeks leading into finals.
Sounds like fun :meanie:

Seriously though - :luck: on the EKG test. I'm sure you'll do great! You're a smartie!

I was talking to a friend of mine from ugrad and he made IM sound like a complete hell hole :scared: Well that's a mark against Houston I guess - he says they have call every 3rd night but I thought that was typical. Apparently Baylor has it every 4th night

IM was the worst few professional months of my life.

holy crap! wow, nice job ana. 😱

Yo yo what's happening. I had such a bad headache earlier. I feel so much better now thanks to max strenth tylenol. 😀

Hey A man,

Did you see my post from yesterday?? Where do you guys do away rotations for EM??

I found it strange that Jackson doesn't have a residency in that area.

Also try and update your blog cuz me and Nikki are waiting for a new entry. 😀 😛 🙂 😉

Downside: I now have a blister that is... I **** you not... the size of a half dollar on the back of my heel 😡

OUCH!! That sounds really bad. I know when we have our guju festival Navaratri, we are dancing all night without shoes and people have these jingly kind of anklets called janjar and so when the little dangly things fall on the floor it pokes at your foot and you get tons of blisters from dancing and from the stuff that falls on the floor from people's anklets and other junk. I hate blisters!!! 🙁

Congrats though on getting through running that much. I can't do it without some music and I don't have a mp3 player so I go to aerobic classes. Exercising in pure silence, to me, is pure torture.

I use an MP3 player when I run but obviously when I swim it's in silence. It's actually really nice. The rhythm of it is relaxing, you mind goes blank and all you think is "stroke stroke stroke breathe, repeat" and I feel totally destressed after I'm done.

Hey guys!

Quick question......besides Monster, Careerbuilder, Hotjobs, Craigslist, and hospital websites, do you know where else I can find Clinical Research Assistant jobs?

Here's a question for you guys:

do you think it's child abuse for a parent to let their child become morbidly obese?

I'm watching commercials for the Insider on fox with "brave Jessica" at almost 400 pounds. After doing an internet search it doesn't look like she has a syndrome (i.e. Prader-Willi) that would cause obesity. It makes me feel like her parents are abusing her!

thanks ana, here we're q4 but at the VA i was admitting q2. all depends on your team though and how many patients you have.

IM was the worst few professional months of my life.

this has been a bad week just beacause of the stress of exams coming up and all this other stuff going on but it actually hasnt been a bad couple of months for me. i learned a lot of inpatient logistics, who to call, where to go for path, radiology, etc.... now, i just hope i learned enough medicine for the shelf exam. :scared: 😱 :scared: 😱 :scared: <---------- very freaked

I feel like the operative words here are let her. So, while I don't believe it is responsible parenting, I can't call it abuse. I see abuse as a more active thing.

Beary, I opted to do my paper on cardiac tamponade. I found a couple of great trials so it shouldn't be difficult. Thanks again...and you too PBandJ.

i still need to talk to some of the EM attendings here and ask them for advice as to where to apply and where to do externships.

we have a great Emergency department here its just that theres no residency for it. its basically staffed by internal medicine residents + attendings who are either board certified EM docs or IM docs picking up shifts.

I heard the reason for us not having an EM residency is that our residency programs are under probation because of poor follow up care or something and when on probation we cant open up a new residency program. which sucks because it just seems like such a waste of these fantastic facilities but whatever, eventually i guess. just too late for me.

as for a blog update...... hmmmm, right now you dont want one, trust me. id freak you all out.

Any suggestions for dinner? PWH is working until 10 so it is all me. I need to study some more, but I can't get motivated. Perhaps I should go sit at my desk rather than lie in bed with my laptop!!

A-man, good luck with everything! try not to freak out too much. you can do it! we believe in you 🙂

I just saw that 😱

Not sure if it's child abuse, but her parents are definitely wrong for making her that big.

i see it a different way - they've been giving in to her wants and whims since birth (as seen on an interview when they were on the Maury show). Her doctors have counseled the parents on nutrition and the risks of a child that young being morbidly obese.

By continuing to not put this girl's health ahead of her whining for food, and putting her at severe risk for umpteen numbers of health problems, I feel like it's abuse. At the very least neglect.

According to Illinois, "[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Child abuse is the mistreatment of a child under the age of 18 by a parent, caretaker, someone living in their home or someone who works with or around children."

To me, these parents are mistreating their child in a big way.

.

My sister-in-law's sister has a son who is 10 and pushing 300 lbs. We see him at family events. Because of a messed-up family situation, he lives with his grandparents who satiate him with food. I've personally seen him eat 4 burgers, a bag of chips and tons of snacks in one sitting. He can barely walk and already has type II diabetes from his obesity.

It just makes me angry that these particular parents portray their child as being "brave" and garnishing our sympathy when THEY DID THAT TO HER. She's only 9 - who do you think taught her the rules of eating! (same goes for my SIL's nephew!)

'Night Randomites! Six o'clock is going to come around WAY too soon. I hate Wednesdays!🙄
