I like it! I'm looking at that one, too.

You can get it for free if you collect something outrageous like 9,000 Coke Rewards points. 😱

Anastasis said:
WHOA - how do you collect points? As much as my dad drinks cokes I might be able to do that. 😉

You get codes on red caps from bottles (only 20 oz and the 1, 2, or 3 L) and on the inside of the cardboard fridge packs for cans (just the 12-packs). You input the codes at mycokerewards.com.

if i actually watched lost i'd talk about it with you brett. right now the only shows i'm following are house, scrubs, GA, and ER. I was into Alias for a while too but after they put it in hiatus or whatever this season i lost track of it when it came back. i dont have enough slack left to watch lost.

i'll probably rent all the DVDs when I'm a fourth year and have more time to catch up, just about everyone thats seen it loves that show.

nik, cute laptop! i almost got that one, but ended up going with the powerbook G4. by the time i customized the sony one to have everything that my mac has, it was way more expensive. but i'm happy with the mac.

Last night I kicked my blanket off my bed and then woke up cold. I sat up in bed, and reached down to try and grab it. I kept reaching, and reaching, and reaching, until finally I toppled out of bed and landed on my head. Seriously. Now I have a headache. 🙄

The funny thing is that for a while I was getting frustrated by crappy filler episodes and vowed to stop watching and then just binge when the series ended.

The show tests my patience.

Ow.

If it makes you feel better, I just slip off my exercise ball (what I sit on at my desk) laughing at that. That's Karma for you.

lol oooohhhhhhhhh that's so much sugar!! lol
the serving size says 3 pieces. i had 5...so that's roughly 15 grams of sugar. that's less than the amount of sugar in a bowl of raisin bran.

OMG, my dog Moby about killed himself today. 🙁

He was wearing one of those metal choke collars. I hadn't taken it off yet from his walk earlier. I was sitting in the backyard with the girls and the dogs were playing on the deck. I looked over at Moby and noticed he had his head against the deck and wasn't moving. Bizarre so I went over to see what was going on. His metal collar had gotten stuck in between the boards of the deck. He then spun around trying to get free and ended up making the collar tighter.

So, I ran inside and found the wire cutters but the collar was too thick. I called for my husband (thank goodness he works at home). I held Moby so he'd stay laying down against the deck (because he was freaking out and trying to pull away from the deck) while my husband spun him around enough to loosen the collar. As soon as he was free he ran around like nothing had happened.

I'm so scared to think what would have happened to him if I hadn't been outside with him. Those of you with dogs - never leave those collars on them if they don't need them. 🙁

beary! ow! sometimes right as i'm falling asleep i'll dream or something that i'm falling out of my bed and it feels like i'm falling but i'm not moving at all!! freaky huh?

Yay for first real day of vacation! Double yay for finally feeling sort-of human again!

On my to-do list for today:

1. Get stamps.
2. Get something to make for dinner.

This is truly awesome!!!

Hmm - you know what might increase my motivation, a third pot of coffee. :meanie:

I wonder what the LD50 for caffeine is.
From Wikipedia:

The minimum lethal dose of caffeine ever reported is 3,200 mg, administered intravenously. The LD50 of caffeine is estimated between 13 and 19 grams for oral administration for an average adult. The LD50 of caffeine is dependent on weight and individual sensitivity and estimated to be about 150 to 200 mg per kg of body mass, roughly 140 to 180 cups of coffee for an average adult taken within a limited timeframe that is dependent on half-life. The half-life, or time it takes for the amount of caffeine in the blood to decrease by 50%, ranges from 3.5 to 10 hours. In adults the half-life is generally around 5 hours. However, contraceptive pills increase this to around 12 hours, and, for women over 3 months pregnant, it varies from 10 to 18 hours. In infants and young children, the half-life may be longer than in adults. With common coffee and a very rare half-life of 100 hours, it would require 3 cups of coffee every hour for 100 hours just to reach LD50. Though achieving lethal dose with coffee would be exceptionally difficult, there have been many reported deaths from intentional overdosing on caffeine pills.

I haven't done anything today. I need to cancel all my utilities but just haven't done it.

Well then damn, there might not be enough coffee in the world!

Whoa. If I were going to kill myself with pills, a stimulant is not how I would do it. 😱

Agree. Especially as you have access to DEA controlled substances. Me, well, we have tons of cyanide in the lab. 😀

Cyanide and benzos may be good. The LD50 for benzos and narcotics is really high, but may at least help you go gently into the good night. 😉

I think acetominophen may be the worst way to go. It would probably take a few days for you to die once your liver got destroyed....

Can you tell that toxicology was my favorite part of pharm???

benzo's with just increase the FREQUENCY of the cl- channel opening, thats how they are sedatives. by themselves they wouldnt be able to do it, even if you took a whole bottle of valium. benzo's really only become deadly when you also consume alcohol. alcohol increases the DURATION of the cl- channels. so if you took a bunch of valium and chased them with a bottle of wine you'd end up with cl- channels that are open more frequently and are open longer than usual, that lets way too much cl- into the cells which hyperpolarizes them and makes it hard to fire action potentials... ie sedating and eventually lethal when that mix is used. antidote to benzos?!?!?! flumazenil 😀

alcohol drops the LD50 and therapeutic index of benzos down big time. this post counts as studying right??!?!

yeah, fulminant hepatic necrosis is not the way to go!!!!!! :scared:

someone get the n-acetylcysteine, STAT! pop quiz doctor, why do we give pts with acetominophen OD's n-acetylcysteine?!?!

yes, pharmacology these last 4 days has made me EVEN CRAZIER.

 It will make more sense to you after you study pharm. Tox deals with how all of these drugs can hurt you. I used to want to be a forensic toxicologist and figure out how people got poisoned. 😀

i was disappointed that my chemistry degree really didnt expose me to toxicology 🙁

when they first started offering it at my undergrad i tried to take it as an elective in my senior year but the chem department head told me it wouldnt count towards my degree. i needed one more 4000 level elective and thought pharm would cover it but it was a 5000 level course and the computer wouldnt credit it to my graduation. booooooooooo

It ups their glutathione, and glutathione binds to N-acetyl-p-benzoquinone-imine, which is a toxic metabolite of acetominophen.

I think this totally counts as studying, for both of us. 😀

I took pharm as a grad student, A, not as an UG. I don't think they usually teach pharm at the UG level.

yeah, sucks though. i think toxicology would make a great elective for senior chemistry majors. especially the ones looking to go into medicine.
Yeah. It was awesome when I took it though. Besides the fact that I thought it was really interesting, I had already been through a year of cell and molecular bio courses, and my classmates were all first-semester pharm grad students. I had the highest grade in the class. 😀

Just got home the chem exam was alright, would have been better if i studied more it seems all the topics i knew well didnt come 🙁 *sigh* hopefully I can make up for it on the P1 on the 31st if not I will die . Phys tomorrow I'm off to do past papers till my fingers bleed. Off for some coffee. Take care everyone have a great week.

Okay, that test was a nightmare. But good news! I think i got a job!! I go in wed. to take a look around 😀

yeah, the glucathione is crucial. it may even stop the patient from dying if you get them in the early stages of the hepatic failure. without it the toxic metabolite works to bind and kill the liver cells. oh, and thats also why you shouldnt mix tylenol with alcohol. processing alcohol uses up the liver's glucathione! so if after a night of binge drinking you down some tylenols you increase the risk of your liver not being able to knock out that toxic metabolite because its glucathione is depleted!

ok, back to real studying.......... blah
