OMG, my dog Moby about killed himself today. 🙁

He was wearing one of those metal choke collars. I hadn't taken it off yet from his walk earlier. I was sitting in the backyard with the girls and the dogs were playing on the deck. I looked over at Moby and noticed he had his head against the deck and wasn't moving. Bizarre so I went over to see what was going on. His metal collar had gotten stuck in between the boards of the deck. He then spun around trying to get free and ended up making the collar tighter.

So, I ran inside and found the wire cutters but the collar was too thick. I called for my husband (thank goodness he works at home). I held Moby so he'd stay laying down against the deck (because he was freaking out and trying to pull away from the deck) while my husband spun him around enough to loosen the collar. As soon as he was free he ran around like nothing had happened.

I'm so scared to think what would have happened to him if I hadn't been outside with him. Those of you with dogs - never leave those collars on them if they don't need them. 🙁
that's terrible!! i hope he's ok now.

Heh heh. I was a year younger too; I graduated high school at 17. But I ended up taking 9 years (with some breaks) to get my Ph.D., so.... 😳

I graduated HS @ 17 also...that's not normal?

He's completely fine now. It's one of those situations where you wonder about the what-ifs. Usually I put the dogs outside and then go about my business inside. If that had happened with me inside, it could have been a long time before I noticed and it might have been too late. I'm not sure if he was able to breathe well with the collar so tight. 🙁

But he's fine - there's obviously a reason I decided to let the girls play outside then.

Yeah, I dunno - I graduated when I was 17 also. I started college on my 18th birthday. If I had been at a school on the semester system that started in August, I would have been 17 when I started college.

If not, you will flip burgers for the rest of your life. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Whoa...y'all have been chatting it up today! 3 mins until GS...gotta go...

Mamma...I hope Moby is ok. That would break my heart!

I will bring y'all up to date on my ridiculous day later....

Yeah, I'm definitely different. I promise you that you've never met anyone quite like moi. :meanie:

Awwwwwwwwwwww Q, you are going to be awesome because you don't just have the brains and beauty, but you have the compassion and caring side to you that make you a great person.

That's hard to find from people.

Molly,

That is seriously one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. I'll join.

Signed back online because my dad hooked me up with the ultimate proofer for my PS - turns out a friend of his from med school is on an Adcom (don't worry - I'm not applying to his school. No special favors for moi.)

I'm such a dork I actually went and did it:

So I'm a dork with too much time on my hands and 20 minutes to kill before GA starts ...

We have helium balloons in our house left over from the baby shower that I hosted last weekend. Naturally I start thinking about how funny it is to inhale helium. Then I started wondering why it changes your voice.

Apparently, it has to do with the density of helium vs. the density of air and the speed of helium vs. the speed of air and how that changes the resonant frequencies of the sound of your voice.

Is it just me or does that seem like it could be something that would show up on the MCAT?

Yeah, it definitely sounds like an MCAT problem. 😛

you know how sometimes questions like that just pop into your head? that same question popped into mine a few years ago. 🙂

helium also doesnt damage the lungs because its a noble gas... ie.... unreactive. now... dont go inhaling chlorine gas balloons or you'll liquefy your lungs in about 2 seconds.

you also dont want to mess around with the balloons for too long, if you inhale helium for several minutes straight you'll displace oxygen from your alveoli.

To add to the list: don't inhale carbon monoxide either. 😉
