Hey I know you guys are probably trying not to think of MCAT stuff (and that might be the point of this whole thread) but I have a quick question that I can't seem to find the answer to... Do you have to wait until you get your April scores to submit the AMCAS application?

I know that the sooner submitting it the better, but I'm not sure about the whole MCAT score thing...

Thanks!! 😀

no, you don't have to wait before you submit. you can submit this year as early as june 5. but it won't be sent out until your scores are released. so if everything else is ready, you can hit the submit button...but you won't be able to remove any schools from your list or modify anything else in your app b/c it will be in the verification process.

Thanks for your input! I've been pretty much done with my AMCAS since they released it at the beginning of May (I'm a tad obsessive). I'm afraid if I wait any longer to submit it I might combust...(I also am a tad anxious!)

i know how that goes. basically, you're not at a disadvantage if you wait for the scores to come out until you submit (this is what most people who took the april MCAT will do) because AMCAS sends out the first batch of applications together at the beginning of July (or so I've heard). But if you're antsy and you're definitely set on your schools (regardless of your MCAT score), then go ahead and submit!

good :luck: to you! 😀 we'll make it through the (horribly painful) waiting!

seriously Ana, you've never set foot in a medical school? actually, aside from working at UPittsburgh Med Center for a few sumemrs, i didn't have my first real experience until last november. it's kind of an interesting experience (depending on who takes you around, if anyone). my friend took me around at northwestern med school and the first thing he showed me was the cadaver lab and all the partially aborted fetuses. it was intense for my first visit, but all in alll a good experience. 🙂

WOW!! That's impressive. 👍

Even my 2.5 year old has cavities - only because her severe jaundice as a newborn messed up her teeth. She actually doesn't have enamel in certain spots so those areas are extremely prone to decay. It still makes me feel like a bad mommy, though. 🙁

I 😍 macs! I am typing this on a mac as we speak. Generally, I have always used macs for work but prefer PCs for fun (just because software is more plentiful, and you can get so much more PC for the money). I used to use this mac almost exclusively and it used to seem so fast to me but I have since got a much newer and huge/screaming fast PC desktop so now this seems geriatric. 🙂

I have 4 computers. Is that indicative of a problem?

I pretty much only use 2 anymore though (the big PC desktop and this mac laptop).

Gotcha .... I'm not sure how I would handle seeing that. 🙁

I didn't have any cavities until last year, and since then I have gotten 2 more. I didn't change anything about my habits.

Interesting .... 😕

In a maternal/child health course that I took, we had a dental public health person come in and lecture to us. She said that in order for a person to get cavities, they have to have a specific bacteria in their mouth. We acquire the bacteria usually from our parents when we are babies, but she said some people don't.

I wonder if maybe you didn't have that bacteria until recently? Probably an our there idea, but it's the first thing that popped into my head. 😉

I have always had tons and tons of cavities - all my baby molars were filled (got my first cavity around 6 or 7 years old), and all of my permanent molars are filled. I haven't gotten any new cavities since I was 18, fortunately. I also haven't changed my teeth hygienne habits, so go figure. 😕 I asked my dentist if maybe there just weren't any spots left to decay since I have so many fillings, but he says I could definitely still get them other places in my molars. 😉

Oh well. No field is perfect.

What's a decomp autopsy?

I started reading the abortion thread on the ob/gyn forum here and there was a pathologist there who was pretty outspoken against it based on what s/he had seen as a pathologist. 🙁

That makes as most sense as anything else I've heard! I wonder how I all of a sudden got it recently. Weird. All that stupid hospital time as a med student?

night night oxeye!

i've had several cavities and even *gasp* a root canal/crown on one tooth. thanks a LOT, orthodontist! really, he was terrible...i only had one cavity before that experience, and afterwards, i've had lots since (especially the molars which had spacers on them that the orthodontist didn't have cleaned before he put those spacers on).

She's so funny - when we didn't have any "kid" toothpaste (at my folks' house) she refused to use any and just used water.

yea, not fun, especially b/c i was still in high school when it happened. but fortunately (though it might not seem fortunate to some), the roots of the tooth that needed the root canal had actually died before i had the root canal done, so it really didn't hurt at all (i've heard they can be REALLY painful if the roots are still alive but infected).

my apologies for the (somewhat) gory details, in case they offend anyone!
