This is a place to chill and talk about anything besides the MCAT. 😎

back from happy hour. nothing spectacular. there are only 2 of us in our department who are under 35, and the other one couldn't go, so it was me and a bunch of 50/60-somethings.

good margaritas and really cheap Mexican food though!
the people i work with are all MUCH older than me, so i know how you feel. we don't really go out though.

mmm margaritas!! i'm having one right now. 😀

VD, how are the secondaries coming along? I'm just getting started and already I feel overwhelmed. I hope you're taking the weekend off after your killer day in the clinic!

I just saw that I missed a page this afternoon. I don't know how that happened. I hope I don't get in trouble. :scared:
that was mine, beary. i was trying to make your delivery but your office door was locked. 😉

but seriously, i hope everything's ok!

Do any of you randomites who are still going to take the MCAT want my Kaplan materials? I have 5 books from the online course that I was planning to have a bonfire with :meanie: but decided they could still be put to good use by one of you.

I'd send 'em to you for just the cost of shipping. I wrote in them and my daughter drew in them just to warn you.

And Q - if I'm not allowed to do this, let me know. I don't know if you're supposed to give away course materials. But it's either this or the trash can because I am sooooooo DONE with the MCAT!

Soo....I just got back from shopping and being the usual guy I hate shopping.
Today however was a great day.

I got 3 pair of shorts, 1 pair of nice pants with the stainguard, and get this:
A SEERSUCKER SUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a total impulse buy but there were only 4 jackets left and 1 of them fit me perfect so I figured it was fate. Now I just need to find some shoes to complete the outfit.

A-Man, if I get an interview in Miami, I'm wearing this suit...

they're very nice. they're all women, except for my boss. it's kind of like having 8 different mothers and still having to go home and call my real one.

they've also all worked at the hospital for over 20 years, so they're incredibly burned out.

Time to get back to cleaning ..... ugh ....

My husband has been home this week and we've been doing a lot of stuff around the house. One big project has been cleaning out the garage and now so much of that stuff is in the house and I want to scream!!!!!

But the garage is very empty and my husband is happy about that. I'd rather have a messy garage and a clean house, thank you very much ....

You should convince your hubby to build a shed.

Then he can transfer everything to the shed and the house can be empty. Or if you have a basement you should transfer it there unless that's been converted to another room. Or if you have an attic it could go there.

 i know what you mean about having plenty of mothers...sometimes I think I already talked to my mom about something but then I realize I was getting advice from someone at work.

I work with the elderly (our research participants are elderly, not my co-workers...though in some cases both might be true.). So I think that generally tends to drive away the younger crowd like myself. I just thought it would be a really unique atmosphere and learning experience, and it has definitely proved to be that.

the elderly ARE fun to work with- I've had a few private clients in their 70s and 80s and they've been a true treat.

btw, I like the strawberry!

I'm pissed at my brother right now. I adore him and we have always been very close, but this is ridiculous. I had to put in my holiday call requests first thing (choosing from labor day, thanksgiving, christmas, new year's, and memorial day). My brother, his wife, and my niece told me that they were 100% going to visit my folks over labor day. So that is the holiday I am getting off. Now they just cancelled because my niece is starting preschool then. WTF??!! She's 3 years old. Missing a day of preschool will not be the end of the world. Now I'm stuck with Labor Day off, woohoo, and they're not coming. 😡

thanks! i thought i've been orange for a while...needed to spice things up a bit. 🙂

the people who come in for our study are just so different...some are more spunky and active than my 50-ish parents, and others are almost narcoleptic. You never know who's going to come in!

Wow, you guys have been busy today! Someone recap for me, because I'm not wading through twenty pages of lili's musings. 😛

Oxeye, you're not allowed to sell Kaplan's books according to the contract you signed with them, but I don't think there's anything wrong with giving them away to a friend. This is kind of a gray area, because you are allowed to keep your books yourself after you finish the course, though technically Kaplan is allowed to get them back from you if they want. I normally just move threads where people try to sell Kaplan, TPR, and EK books to the For Sale forum. It's just the AAMC tests that I'm keeping my eye out for, like I told you.

Mush, I hate to have to tell you this, but all the books are being revamped for the new CBT. I would advise you to get a new set, because you need to use different strategies when you take a computer exam versus a pen and paper one. The sciences of course are the same, though, so that part would be useful to you. I'm going to have to get new books myself to teach my next class this fall for the 2007 MCAT. 🙂

That was our other project this week - building a small shed for the backyard - so a lot of the stuff that was in the garage is going in there.

No basements out here unfortunately. 🙁 Hardly any houses have them - no idea why. No attics either.

Won't the content be more or less the same, though? The review books should still be okay for CBT right? I never really used the lesson book anyway. 😉

Q - Blah. That is what I was afraid of. Thanks for the heads up. But the content won't be the same? When will we find out how its different?
The content will be the same. That's why I said that her science review books will still be helpful. Biology is biology no matter where you take the test. But a large part of the course focuses on strategy, particularly for VR where there isn't any content to study, and that's what's being revamped. You need to use a study method that helps you prepare to take the test on a computer. Honestly, if it were me, I would try to find some kind of CD-ROM or online course to let me practice. That's what Kaplan has been doing for the DAT, which has already been given on computer for a while now, and the USMLE. They give the DATers a CD-ROM, and they've recently developed a Q bank for the MCAT kind of like the one for the USMLE that all the med students use. It wasn't available two years ago when I took the test, so I don't have experience with it. But there are also free questions here on SDN that users here write; you might try looking at those. (You can find the link on the main SDN page.) And you may be able to find other practice questions on line.

Right, the science review notes would still be helpful. The VR and paper practice questions would be less so.

la-la la-la, la-la la-la, Elmo's World .....

This is what is going through my head right now, over and over and over and over.

This could get me committed to a psych ward.

The only one I have in my court to work on that I'm really planning on working on is GW. I think I'm going to withdraw from Georgetown and TCOM but I'm still playing around with the idea.

😍 Thanks for the support guys. You're awesome!

How many PMs do you get a day?! 😱 😀
Too many. 😳 Some are from you randomites, some are from people wanting to ask me MCAT questions, some are from nontrads who are applying or people who want me to read their PS, and some are just whole life stories asking for advice on all kinds of crazy things. The last category are kind of disturbing sometimes....Ask A-man. He'll know exactly what I mean.
