Why??!! The ENT folks were the ones who took it out. We just get to grow it in the lab and figure out what it is. 😀 Actually on Friday we weren't sure exactly which species it was yet, which is making it difficult for me to prepare for my presentation. 🙄

Wait, you mean pathologists don't just do autopsies?? 😱

kidding. 😛

Not a worry. My hands are practically falling off from how much I wash them and use purell.
i've always been really good with washing my hands beary. lately i've been extra careful, i always wash them before and after seeing a patient. i'm freaked out about picking up some weird hospital bacteria. 3 weeks and no infection so far...... *crosses fingers*

That's really good A-man. Kids are basically walking petri dishes. I got pertussis in med school, but that was the only weird thing I got, and I guess that's not even that weird.

That's gross oxeye.

Though I think you folks are showing signs of being pathologists comparing everything to food. We do that all the time. "Hey, it looks like barbequed pork!"

 Now you're the one being gross.

So what looks like bbq'ed pork? :meanie:

I'm thinking it might be a little too crazy to wear to an actual interview. We'll see how hot it will be on interview day...

WTF? pertussis? arent the DTaP vaccines supposed to cover you? wow

The pertussis part of the vaccine doesn't last very long. It's not as big of a deal in adults as it is in kids. Though I coughed for two months. Finally got it cleared up with antibiotics. It was going through Iowa City like wildfire then.

that really is amazing, i hadnt heard anything about that. you get 5 shots of DTAP as a kid, the last one around age 4-6. thats really interesting.

Yeah, apparently lots of people are still getting pertussis around here. The pediatrician decided to delay some of the vaccines with my baby, but she was adament that she stay on schedule with DTAP because of that.

She decided that she's wasn't at a huge risk for getting HepB or polio right then. 😉

You've never had BBQ Pork? You're missing out!

I know. I try not to eat too many pig meat products. They're such sweet animals - even though they are delicious.

I try to limit myself to chicken, turkey, and beef (and I don't eat too much beef).

isnt the first hep B shot given at birth though? its the only one given at birth, thats how i remember it.

They recently changed to that here. My older daughter got her first HepB at 2 months. My little daughter got it at 1 day old.

wait until you go through gross anatomy. everyone will say that the pectoral muscles look like flank steak etc... and then at the end of lab everyone is starving. 😱 insane.......

i heard from one of our TAs though that it might be the preservative they use in the cadavers that causes people to feel hungry.

And don't they get 3 doses of it? I remember 2, 4, and 6 months with my older daughter.

Hmm, maybe they get 4 .... can't remember.
