3rd time is a charm! 🙂 Welcome to the best thread on SDN: The Random Non-MCAT thread--PART 3!

This is a place to chill and talk about anything besides the MCAT. 😎

So I wrote to my PI this morning -
Hey PI,
I am a little sick this morning. I am going to come to lab in the afternoon if I feel better. Thanks.
DRKUBA

..and he responds with:

"Sick"?? Is that a euphemism for "hungover"?

lol. He knew of my NYC plans.

I don't have an interview suit yet.

What does yours look like VD? 🙂
I have two - one is light grey with darker grey contrast stitching and one is a really expensive hand me down black suit with a more tailored longer jacked with one button and an interesting neckline. That's the one I look hot in; the one button makes my waist look smaller and my boobs look HUGE. I've got a cute white oxford with lace accents for underneath. I'll use the grey one at the Aug interviews because it's more of a summer suit and the black one at the fall ones.

Nice. 🙂 Are they skirt suits or pant suits?

I'm 99% sure I'll go with a skirt suit.

Q: This is why I should never add schools at 2 am. I CAN'T apply to Wash U. I've never taken Diff Eq.

Edit: I've taken through Calc 3 but no Differential. 🙁

You need Diff Eq to apply to Wash U? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard of. I can't even add anymore, much less to differential equations.

Welcome back Molly!!

You don't need diffeq, unless they've just added that as a requirement this year. I never took it either. 😕

They are coming your way hon!!!!

Q started already 😱

you rock.

my friend and I have season tix to our outdoor theater in town. last night, we were walking along this dirt road back to our car, and when cars drove past us, they kicked up this cloud of dust where you couldn't see 5 feet in front of you. blech.

definitely need the rain.

I'm just having lots of thunder right now but the rain is coming. We haven't had rain in a while. Although since my yard sucks anyways I'm not really all that concerned but I WOULD be concerned if I had dust kicked up in front of me 🙁

I loved the first sem. of physics- mechanics, energy, etc. We'll see how this goes. Have a test each of the next three Mondays and a quiz every TWR for the next 4 weeks.... and then the final. And did I mention lab every day except Mondays? With a report due every day.

No chat for me.

ouch, big ouch 🙁 But at least its concentrated only on phsycis so maybe that will help. The immersion method.

I have to figure out what to drop from my fall schedule. I think 5 classes is going to be a bit much for me. Especially now that I found out with my phlebotomy class I have to have 100 clinical hours which they are supposed to fit in 6 weeks, two days a week.

Well this is my dilemma.

I was going to take:

ochem - 5 credits (retake from last spring - I got a C 🙁 )
chem - 5 credits (retake from '97-'98)
phlebotomy - 5 credits
Medical Micro - 4 credits
Meteorology - 3 credits

I'm really just thinking about sucking it up with the ochem I. This would be the 3rd semester in a row I've attempted this class (I had to drop it last fall for personal reasons). But I could really use the 5 credits of a good A. But then that is high hopes.

Its starting to pour here!

can you get the A in OChem with everything else going on, incl the phlebotomy clinical hours? will you still be doing the research or is that just a summer thing?

Well I won't have a whole lot of time to do the research which is partly why I was thinking of just dropping the ochem. I think its a full schedule with all of that and its just not possible. I'd also like to shadow and will have other commitments such as tutoring. So I really think I'll just suck up the ochemand move on with it. I probably would't be able to pull all A's with that load ESPECIALLY b/c the teach for med micro is hard. I'd rather do well in the upper level classes I suppose.

holy crap- I just added up the actual number of credit hours you listed! 22???? honey, don't kill yourself with this! you've got a hubby you want to see every once in a while!

I just heard some horror stories about our cell bio teacher this morning. If I'd wind up taking it with her, I'd rather not take it.

I've got OChem and Genetics in the fall. And three jobs, although the "primary" job doesn't occupy more than 25 hours a week, and the others quite a bit less.

oh no!!! sorry ana! i'll teach it to you overnight if that helps. 😛

(i may be a dork, but i love diff eq!)

From the supplemental app:
What college-level calculus courses that included integral and differential equations will you complete prior to starting Medical School? AP credits are accepted if listed on your Transcript.

Required course work includes a minimum of one year in biological science, general or inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics and calculus through integral and differential equations. However, statistics can be substituted for one semester of calculus. A course in biochemistry, though not required, is encouraged.

I've taken Calc 1-3 but not Diffeq 🙁 and none of them covered that info.

 Well hubby won't be around much anyways. Away rotations. I was going to take genetics but I heard the teacher here is really hard. Plus i'm hoping to take this med micro class in the fall and in the spring the same teacher will teach biochem. I want to do well in both her classes so I can ask for a LOR. Also I think I'll taking two undergrad classes (genetics, virology) while I'm doing my masters next year (hopefully I'll get accepted). I don't want to drop meteorolgy b/c I think that woudl be a cool class for me 🙂 I probably don't need to retake chem either but its just hard to decide. I think I got b/b- in chem.

Guys - UTMB interviews went out for Aug 4th and I didn't get one. Why am I suddenly terrified? That's the Texas school I really wanted before MCAT scores came out and if I don't get into Baylor that's where I really want to go. 🙁

you totally need to take meteorology. that'll confirm your status as SDN Weathergirl 😛

I don't know who's teaching our OChem. There was one guy who was supposed to be just awful, and he was originally slated to do it. However the university apparently terminated him as of May, and it's still listed as TBA on the fall schedule. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.... I suppose worst-case scenario would be to drop it and take it in the Spring with the teacher who is supposed to be awesome, then take OChem II with lab next summer..
